   『Time Out of Mind』がスタートすると、ボブ・ディランは1964年の「One Too Many Mornings」と同じように淀んだ日の風景の中に姿を現す。だが、今回のディランには、街角や遠くで吠える犬をロマンティックに描き出すような余裕はない。どんなに愛に、そして自分自身に疲れているか、ひたすらうめき声で訴えるばかりだ。うめくことで先を続ける力が出てくるんだと言いつつ、ディランは歌い続ける。そのようにしてつづられていく11曲は、ディランがもっとも正直に自分の気持ちを吐露したもので、雄弁な音楽性を持っている。90年代初頭の傑作アルバム『Good As I Been to You and World Gone Wrong』で垣間見せた、再構成されたボトル・ブルースを受け継ぐのが本作なのだ。ダニエル・ラノワの手になるプロダクションとグルーヴは、ダーティーな質感をかもし出すべく入念に計算されており、少なくとも『Blood on the Tracks』以降のディランのアルバムの中では最高の仕上がりといえるだろう。どれほどディランがひどい気分だと訴えようとも、これは強い、本当に強い男のつくった音楽である。（Rickey Wright, Amazon.co.uk）

サウンドはミステリアスで上質。歌の出来は粒ぞろい。でもディランの作品のなかではいちばん暗く、まさに陰々滅々。声は超のつく悪声。だが、ディランはこの悪声じゃないと実現しないユニークなアートを生み出した。

暗いのオッケー、悪声オッケーというひと（なかなかいないだろうが）にはオススメ。アルバムとしては素晴しいので、上の条件に合うひとは安心して（？）聴いてみてほしい。

ラストの、だらだらと長い歌は、一見なんのへんてつもなさそうだけど、唯一無二の詩的表現ができているところがスゴイ。この歌のなかでウェイトレスと超現実的なヘンな会話をするシーンがあるんだけど、こういう表現はディラン独特で誰もマネできない。しかもあの声じゃないとムリ。彼の生きる実感がものすごくリアルに豊かに伝わってくる。

それにどの歌も、あの声じゃないと実現しない、しかも、よく聴いてみると唯一無二のまったく新しい表現を成し遂げているというところが、素晴しく、まるで奇跡のようだ。作ろうと思ってできるようなアルバムではない。ディラン自身も、これをもう一回やれと言われてもできないのではないか。

ボブ・ディランの説得力のあるヴォーカルが見事。
ディランは、彼の偉大なキャリアを「フォーク」でスタートさせ、ロックと融合させた「フォーク・ロック」で時代を切り開いた。
サウンド面では、彼の声と共にそれらとは距離のあるアルバムと言える。

この作品は、ブルース色の濃い”音”で構成されている。ディランの長年のファンにしてみれば、その時代のディランの表現上の選択肢と受け留めることができる。そして彼の作り出した世界に耽ることは容易なことだ。彼のエコーのかかった歌声とともに。

Dylanは当然走りつづけている。しかしとりあえずこの作品は１つのピークだ。若い時のような攻撃的かつシュールな言葉を嵐のようにぶつけるのではなく、大作家の散文小説のような味わいとゆとりすら感じさせる「ハイランズ」。この淡々とした、アナログでは片面全部を使う長尺のTalkingBluesはその抑えた演奏がかえって凄みを感じさせる。

　全体に詩の世界はシンプルで、ダニエル・ラノワのプロデュース作品独特の空間的なギター中心の玄人っぽいサウンドとの取り合わせは、時にはゴスペルのように聞こえ、時にはDeepSouthのBluesそのもののようでもある。
　Dylanの声と、このサウンドは魔術的な魅力で私を捕らえ、聞き終わると再びプレイバックしてしまうのだ。
