   ホワイト・スネイクはかつて1980年代のヘアー・メタルブームのバンドたちと一緒くたにされたけれど、実際には、あの頃比較されたバンドの大半よりももっと上等な、そしてもっと古典的なロックバンドだった。だから、このベスト盤の収録曲は、当時MTVに後押しされた多くのバンドたちの楽曲より優れている。デイヴィッド・カヴァーデールのヴォーカルは、レッド・ツェッペリンのロバート・プラントに似ていると非難されたが、自信に満ちた威勢のいい歌声は、プラントのがなり声に比べれば控え目と言ってもいいくらいだ。

   本作には、70年代のヒットに恵まれなかったアルバムの曲は外され、「Still of the Night」「Here I Go Again」といった怒号の大作から、露骨でセクシーな「Slide It In」や忘れがたく力強いバラード「Love Ain't No Stranger」まで、商業的に絶頂期を迎えた時期からの期待どおりの曲が収録されている。そこそこの出来の未発表曲3曲も加わったこの全14曲入りのベスト盤は、ホワイト・スネイクにまさにお似合いの、時代を越えた強烈なコレクションだ。（Katherine Turman, Amazon.com）

Ｇｅｆｆｅｎに移籍後のホワイトスネイクの３枚のアルバムのＢＥＳＴ盤。Ｇ
ｅｆｆｅｎに移籍後、突然、メジャーになった彼らをして、売れ線に走ったと
評するマニアもいるのは重々承知しているが、そういう感情を抜きに聞くと、
非常に良い曲からなる、きわめて良質なハードロックアルバムになっている。

純粋に聞くのであれば、移籍後の数多い良い曲の中から更に名曲を厳選したアルバムであり、極めてお得では？

GEFFEN移籍後の３枚のアルバムから構成されたベストアルバムです。
GEFFEN移籍までは、チャート的には若干地味であった彼らですが、GEFFEN移籍後、アメリカマーケットで大成功を収めました。ただ、それまでの熱烈なファンからは「これまでのブルースを基調としたロックから売れ線のハードロックに転向した」と非難されたことも有名な話です。

ただ、そういうスピリチュアルな部分を抜きにして聴くと、GEFFEN時代のアルバムは楽曲的に優れたものが多く、そのベストアルバムである本作も佳曲揃いの楽しめるアルバムになっています。また、vo＋ｇのみによるアンプラグドライブ等の原点回帰の好アルバムも、この後、出していますので、彼らがチャートを賑わせた時代のサウンドを知る意味でもお奨めのアルバムです。

リッチーとカヴァーディル
「全米制覇の野望」この共通のテーマに向け両者は80年代凌を削ることとなる。
方やヴォーカリストを手を替え品を替え、一方はギタリストが月替わり定食。

結局ラスバラード作品を取り入れメロディ重視ポップ性で勝負したリッチーよりも、サイクスという宝を武器にフラッシーなメタルブームに便乗し、ゴージャスに整形したカヴァの完全勝利に終わった。

時は2000年、リッチーは戦いに疲れ果て、再度古城へと惹き込もる。
カヴァは勝利の代償と引き換えに急速な劣化をするもナツメロ集金ツアーに余念がない。

今想う、あの時目的が同じなら二人でアルバム作って仕掛ければ良かったのにと…
