1961年の作品ですが、CDでは小西康陽のレディメイドから、世界初CD化されています。そのレディメイドシリーズのキャッチが「未来の音楽」というもので、他にはミシェル･ルグランのアルバムとかポール･ウインターなど比較的渋い選択をしているのが、なかなかおもしろいです。まあ「未来の音楽」といった風情は、このアルバムも含めて微塵もないのですが、内容はどれも素晴らしいと思います。特にこのジャッキー＆ロイのアルバムはその後、まだ再発されていないようなので貴重です。
ここで聴けるのは、最高に軽妙で洒脱なデュエットです。そもそもオリジナルの時点でタイトルからも分かるように、二人の得意にしていた持ち歌を再録音したものが多いので、大変洗練されており完成度も高いです。ラウンジ色はどちらかというと薄いので、本格的なジャズファンにも充分受け入れられる一品だと思います。それにしても、「未来の音楽」シリーズは、ほんとに良い仕事をしてくれていたんですね。

アルバムオープニングから疾走するピアノ、ジャッキーとロイの機械のように正確なユニゾンと掛け合い。二人はソロとしてもハイレベルなボーカリストですが、ピタリと息のあったデュオというスタイルが、二人の上手さをさらに際立たせます。

白人的なセンスとユーモアを兼ね備えた歌はお洒落で、心地よく、聴く人を、ハッピーな気分にします。間違いなくジャッキー＆ロイの最高傑作アルバム。彼らの歌には可愛らしいものもあり、少しだけ紹介すると、、、

ん？
すごくいい匂いがするね
そう？
四月の優しい雨にくちづけされた
春の花の香りみたいさ、、、

ミドルテンポのこの歌を聴くと、僕はクスっとしてしいます。

このアルバムを買った当時、彼らのアルバムはほとんどＣＤ化されておらず、僕は、中古レコード屋へ行ったときは、必ず彼らのレコードを探しました。今は、こんなに素晴らしい名盤が簡単にＣＤで手に入るのだから幸せだと思います。
