   ニルヴァーナとともに90年代の、いわゆるグランジ・ブームを代表するバンド、パール・ジャムがその人気を確立した93年発表の2ndアルバム。次の『バイタロジー（生命学）』から、彼らは果敢に試行錯誤に挑み、グランジのイメージを払拭する、ある意味、問題作を作りはじめるわけだけれど、本作とデビュー作にかぎって言えば、アメリカン・ロックに通じるおおらかさもあわせ持ったハード・ロックを演奏している。バンド、およびアーティストとしての表現の深みという点では、後の作品に譲るものの、ロック特有のダイナミズムやカタルシスを味わいたければ、これが一番。サウンド的にもとっつきやすい。（山口智男）

早くも2005年。このアルバムはいいぞまじで。
まずギターは二本で二人の掛け合いがなかなかいい。ギターの音がミュアンミュアンいってて今作は冴えている。
最初から最後まで細部まで聞けると思う。ファーストにはギターが聞き図らい
印象を抱いたが今作は二人ノギタリストのなんどでも聞きたい音が含まれていると思う。
難点は英語の歌詞が手書きでみずらい点である。

　高校時代に出会ってから、彼らのアルバムは全て持っていますが、何度聴いてもこのアルバムが一番好きです。このアルバムには他のアルバムにはないテンションの高さを感じる事ができ、グランジだなんだと意味のわからん敬遠をする方にも受け入れやすいと思います。
　Pearl Jamの顔でありカリスマであるエディのソウルフルで深みのあるVoもさることながら(かなりの熱唱です)、とにかくこのバンドはギターのセンスがとてもいい。ソロ云々というわけではなく、ちょっとしたフレーズや空気に天性のものを感じます。
　なによりもバンドで作り出す一体感が２作目だとは思えないほど地に足が付いてます。この辺りが他の同意世代のバンドと異なり、長く続けられている要因だと思うんですけど、どうでしょう。
　ハイテンションな曲からアメリカのバンドらしい落ち着いた曲まで、このアルバムに関しては捨て曲は一切ないと思っていますが、あえて一番好きなのを挙げると、シンプルな構成なのになぜか心をしめつけられてしまう｢Rearviewmirror｣。何故かわからないんですがこの曲のサビを聴くと胸がきゅっとしちゃいます。

　ロックファンを自認する方は聴いても損はないと思います。

レジクラッシャー・・・アメリカで発売当日レジに長ーーい行列が、そしてその手に持っているのはこの「Ｖｓ」。あまりに売れすぎてレジが壊れそうな勢いだったためこう呼ばれたそう。この話を聞いただけでもパール・ジャムのすごさはわかってもらえると思います。さあ、パール・ジャムにはまりましょう！
