といえば、意見は分かれますが、僕にとってはダントツでこれ。ディランの作品では初めてヴァイオリンが全編でフューチャーされているわけですが、異色作という感じではないです。最後までテンションが高く、何度聴いても飽きないです。
　この中で僕にとってベスト・トラックは、別れの歌（おそらく離婚した妻；サラに贈る）「オー・シスター」。初めは歌詞の意味がよく分かりませんでしたが、こういうことでしょう；"Time is an ocean, but it ends at the shore. You may not see me tomorrow."「時は海のよう（に無限）だ。しかし海は岸で終わる（ように時も終わりがある）。君は、明日には僕に会えないかもしれない。」　・・・・・泣きそう。

　このアルバムの1曲目「ハリケーン」は、あのルービン・”ハリケーン”・カーターのことを歌ったものである。映画「ハリケーン」を見た人なら、何度かこの曲を聞いているはず。無実の罪で終身刑を判決された黒人ボクサー（世界チャンピオン）のルービンを解放させようと、当時、社会運動が起こったが、その中でディランはこの「ハリケーン」という歌を歌って世間に訴えていたのである。 彼のメッセージ性は、他の作品でも十二分に味わえるのだが、この曲での彼の訴えは本当に心に響くものがあります。(ちなみに私は、高校時代にこのCDを買ったのですが、 何も知らずに感動してました。）

「ハリケーン」が初めてラジオから流れてきた時の驚きは忘れられません。
その足でレコード（古い！）を買いに行きました。
無実の罪で投獄された黒人ボクサー、ルービン・カーターを歌った「ハリケーン」はプロテスタントの元祖、ボブ・ディランの真骨頂であり、当時、センせーショナルな話題であったと思います。

ディランは、この作品の発売後行った、ローリング・サンダー・レビューではマジソン・スクエア・ガーデンで、ルービン・カーターへの支援集会をクライマックスに持ってきました。
「欲望」が発売された頃のディランは既に伝説の人でした。彼の力強い歌声には感激して、何十回、イヤ何百回も繰り返して聞きました。

「ハリケーン」以外も「コーヒーもう一杯」「モザンビーク」などいい曲が一杯。バイオリンを多用し、ウエスタンな雰囲気。
映画「ハリケーン」を見て、あの曲が何度も繰り返されるのに、再び火がついて、すぐにＣＤを買ってしまいました。
やっぱり、いいですね。
