全集の1作。ウィーン・フィル,満を持しての録音。とにかく,オケの底知れぬ力に圧倒される。マゼールの解釈に疑問を持つ向きもあろうが,特に第4楽章の弦の,凄みさえ感じる瑞々しい響きは筆舌に尽くし難い。やはり,この曲に何か特別の思い入れがあるのだろう。

ひとことでいうと、感傷を排した明朗でダイナミックな演奏。音場の立体感や音色のクリアさは1980年代の録音であることを考えると、かなり優秀な部類と思えます。

マーラーは悲劇的で、激しい感情の明滅を軸として演奏されることが多いように思えますけども、マーラーブームが始まる前頃のこの録音、暗さがない。純粋に器楽を楽しんで指揮、演奏している音色は特にウィーンフィルの弦セクションが限りなく美しく、テンポのよさと相俟って、クラシックのよさを堪能させてくれる。やや重低音の録音が弱く、ヴァイオリン中心の録音か。

一楽章の、マーラーの心臓病の不整脈を示すといわれるハープのソロの箇所も晴朗で、どんどんフレーズが進んでいくのには、普段わてが愛聴するジュリーニ盤（シカゴ）では止まってしまうかのようにビッグバンを迎える箇所との余りの違いにちょっと苦笑してしまうほどですけども、とにかく、各パートのソロが頻出するマーラーではこの九番に限らず、ウィーンフィルの名人芸がたまらない演奏です。終楽章も、死への誘いや白い天使、というドラマ性とは無縁で、純粋器楽の表現力を堪能すべき演奏。今となっては、マゼールによるアンチテーゼのようなマーラー全集はどれも面白いが、特に5番が白眉と思います

マーラーの9番、特に第1楽章と第4楽章、室内楽的なものを感じます。だからアンサンブルがしっかりしてバランスのいいこの演奏が気に入っています。第4楽章の冒頭でも指揮台を踏み鳴らしたりしないし。
よくぞウィーンフィルを選んでくれました。管の音が違うもの。
聴こうと思った時、このディスクとジュリーニ/シカゴ響の盤のどちらにするか毎回悩んでしまいます。
