　アンリエット・ピュイグ＝ロジェは、教育者としてもよく知られたフランスの女流ピアニスト。オルガニストとしても活躍したが、とりわけ高い評価を受けているのは、やはり近代フランスものの演奏だ。このＣＤに収められているのは、ピュイグ＝ロジェが最も得意としたドビュッシーとフォーレの作品で、思い入れのある作品を自分で選んで録音したものだという。
　ドビュッシーとフォーレは同じ時代に同じ土地を生きた作曲家だが、作風は全く違う。ドビュッシーが印象主義を掲げて次々と新しい音楽を生み出していったのに対して、フォーレは新しい要素を取り込みつつロマン主義の系統を継いでいるからだ。この録音は玄人好みの選曲だが、それぞれ対照的な作品が選ばれているので、その両者の違いを存分に味わうことができる。
　ところで近代フランスものというと、軽く柔らかい演奏というイメージがあるが、本家フランスのピアニストの演奏を聴いてみると、想像以上に骨太で堅い感じのものが多い。古くはマルグリット・ロン（ロン＝ティボー・コンクールの設立者）がそうであったし、セシル・ウーセや、アンリエット・ピュイグ＝ロジェもそうだ。フランスものを「フランスものらしく」弾いている演奏を多く聴いていると、本家の演奏はかえって新鮮に聞こえるかもしれない。
