ゼルキンの解釈は私の感性にぴったり。あなたはどうですか？　例えば月光のテンポの早さがいいんですよね。非常に現代的な解釈で、これを録音した時のお年を考えると、信じられないほど颯爽として若々しいロマンティシズムに溢れています。何回これを聴いてじーんと痺れたようになったか分りません。
彼は原典に忠実でベートーヴェンの書き残した楽譜の小さな記し等をいつも研究して解釈を原典に忠実にしようと努力していたとどこかに書いてありましたが、私はそれだけではないと思います。これだけ鋭い感性で刃物のように切り込んで行く演奏はなかなか聴けるものではありません。

　少し前、車の中でラジオをつけたら、ＮＨＫ・ＦＭから、「熱情」が流れて来た。その力強いタッチと、それで居て、明鏡止水とも呼ぶべき静けさをたたえた演奏に打たれた私は、一体、誰がこんな「熱情」を弾いて居るのだろう？と思った。やがて、その素晴らしい終楽章が終はり、アナウンサーが演奏者の名を告げるのを待つと、アナウンサーは、それが、ルドルフ・ゼルキンの演奏であった事を告げた。−−それから間も無く、このＣＤを買った私は、ゼルキンの「熱情」のみならず、「月光」と「悲愴」に、そして、同じくこのＣＤの収められた「テレーゼ」に圧倒された。リヒテルやホロヴィッツの演奏も素晴らしいが、このＣＤに収められたゼルキンの演奏は、素晴らしい。−−「明鏡止水」と言ふ日本語は、ゼルキンのこの演奏の為に有る言葉であるかの様である。
　このＣＤの解説文に依れば、このＣＤに収められた「月光」、「熱情」、「悲愴」は、ゼルキンが５９歳の時（１９６２年１２月）の演奏である。（「テレーゼ」は、７０歳前後（１９７３年）の録音）ゼルキンが、最も円熟して居た頃の演奏と言って良さそうである。素晴らしいＣＤである。こんな素晴らしいＣＤが、この廉価である事は、クラシックのＣＤが、値段と内容が一致しない事の良い例と言へそうである。このＣＤを推薦する。

　派手過ぎない。それが私のゼルキンのベートーヴェンの評価。同時にベートーヴェンの作品への解釈でもある。烈しい情熱や個性のあふれるベートーヴェン演奏は一般によく聴かれる。演奏会ならそれも良い。しかし録音され何度も聴く場合なら、作品と演奏者の感性が一体化したような神聖な演奏の方が普遍性を持っている。何度聴いても飽きない、何度も聴くほど味が出る。そんなゼルキンのベートーヴェンは私のお気に入りのひとつ。
