S.O.Sの曲しか知らなかったのですが、ライブで聴いて感動のあまり泣いてしまったのが、
このCDのラストに入っている「祈り」。
詞も曲も泣かせるすばらしい曲が満載だけど、アメリカに音楽留学経験ありの
Vo.のTAKEさんのスケールの大きな声量は聞く価値大アリ。バックバンドの音声に負けてません。
ゴスペラーズや平井堅が好きな人は絶対気に入るでしょう。

なんでこんなすばらしいバンドの知名度が高くないのか不思議です。

時代を先取りし過ぎて
思うように売り上げが伸びなかったSKOOP時代。
これが最後のアルバムになるかもしれないと
感じながら作った渾身の一作です。
アーティストは思い悩んでいる時ほど
いい作品を作るって言いますけど、、

君なき日々、Where do we go、祈りなど、
歌詞と歌声が切ないほど心に染みます。
歌詞の内容を感じずに
さらっと歌う歌手が多い中、

感情を歌にのせるのが本当にうまいと思います。
きっと本人はそんな事も考えていないと思いますが、
自分達で曲を作っているので
自然とそうなってしまうんでしょうね。
だからすごくグッときます。

今思えば何故売れなかったのか、と思いますが、
当時の音楽シーンを見れば一目瞭然ですよね。
R&Bって何？って世界です。
そりゃ売れません。

このアルバムはいわゆるR＆Bという感じは薄いですが、
今で言うR＆Bを聴き倒した人が聴くと
心地いい落ち着きがある感じです。
アルバムを通して音にまとまりがあり、
夜聴くとすごく合います。

ライブで3人だけで歌う祈りは本当に圧巻です。
あまり泣かない私ですが、こればっかりは
危うく涙が出そうになりました。

このアルバム、祈りの後にはシークレットもありますよ~

「祈り」を手に入れられることが最大の目当てだった。関西ローカルの音楽番組。彼らが閉園する幼稚園でア・カペラでこれを歌う感動的なシーンがあり、ことばがとても印象的だったのだ。といっても描かれるイメージは抽象的で、断片的に響くことばひとつひとつが直接的に心に広がりゆく。一方曲調は青い空へ響き渡るように朗々と大きく歌う晴れやかさから、ゴスペルの風となって音楽が空に飛んでゆくので、光で満ちてゆく優しさや、澄み渡った決然さが敷かれている。またこの喉を開放させ深く大きく響かせるテナーの発声は、さすが黒人音楽をベースにできるだけのことはあるなと思われる。加えてファルセットやミックスボイスの品の保ち方もさすがで、このバランス感覚がこの曲の良心、品格を担っていた。

作品からは「luvConnection」のクールさが凄く素敵だ。本格的なファンクのカッコヨサだろう。「君なき日々」は更に日本語の乗せ方展開の自然さから、日本語歌詞がR&Bの文脈で溶け合っている凄さを感じる。サックスも渋い。「Actor」になるとTAKEの声が純度を高めメロは哀愁の風が吹き、シンプルな出だしだが、後半で音が厚くなる展開に魅力を覚えた。「アマノガワ」は佐藤竹善が冒頭歌詞の観点から完全に射抜かれたという名曲。一方タイトル曲の「Where do we go」も、メロウで且つ爽やかな曲調でSKOOPの名曲の一つだろう。
