まず、長所から指摘すると、スーパー・ビット・マッピング（ソニー流の・デジタル・リマスタリング方式）が施されているので、音はたしかです。そして、二枚組になった結果、それでも、シングル曲以外にも、ディスク２には、１は大貫妙子作詞・作曲、２は原田知世作曲、３は原田知世共作詞、坂本龍一作曲・編曲、４は『早春物語』のサントラで原田知世台詞、久石譲作曲のインスト曲、８は吉川晃司作曲、１２は原田知世作詞・作曲、１３は小室哲哉作曲など、興味深い曲が並んでいます。

とはいえ、このベスト・アルバムの最大の難点は、まず、「原田知世」のイメージを大事にしすぎて同じようなテンポの曲が並びすぎているということです。次に、原田知世がポニーキャニオン、東芝EMI、CBSソニーと移籍を繰り返しているにもかかわらず、音源がソニー移籍後の「天国にいちばん近い島」以降のものに限られていることです。二点目について具体的に説明すると、まず、「悲しいくらいほんとの話」、「ときめきのアクシデント」（ともに1982年）、「時をかける少女」（1983年）などのポニーキャニオン音源、次に、ユーミンのカヴァー「ダンデライオン~遅咲きのタンポポ~」、「守ってあげたい」、そして映画の主題歌「愛情物語」（すべて1984年）などの東芝EMI音源は収録されていません。たとえば、ディスク１の１に収録されている「時をかける少女」は、ポニーキャニオンでのオリジナル・ヴァージョン（1983年、松任谷正隆編曲）ではなく、よりポップでリズミカルなアレンジには一聴の価値があるとはいえ、ソニー移籍後のセルフ・カヴァー・ヴァージョン(1987年、後藤次利編曲）です。

ちなみに、その後、ソニーは、ポニーキャニオン、東芝EMIから音源協力を得て、より完全なベスト盤『2000BEST 原田知世』をリリースしています。

SONY時代のベスト盤ですが、「もう妖精じゃない」、「麝香猫のサンバ」、「泣いているのは星屑」、「サヨナラのない町(シングル・ミックス)」のB面曲は初めてのCD化になり、またサントラでしかCDになっていない曲やシングルCDでしか聴けない「本日晴天」などがまとめて聴けるのはこれだけ。彼女、25年のキャリアの割にはベスト盤は東芝時代の『ポシェット』、キャニオン時代の『原田知世ベスト+時をかける少女』、SONY時代の『From T』、キャニオン〜SONYまでのベストコンピ二種類、フォーライフ時代の『flowers』、『Best harvest』計8作品しか出ておらず、コンプリート・ベストは存在しません。
