「河島英五」という歌手を知るのには、うってつけの一枚です。

英五さんは、声の美しさで勝負するタイプではありません。いわゆる「ダミ声」。しかしそれも河島英五の魅力のひとつ。歌に込められた「優しさ」「人間臭さ」をストレートに伝えることができる、名シンガーだったと思います。このＣＤで、そんな英五さんの魅力を堪能できます。

収録曲は「全曲集」の名に恥じない名曲揃い。そして私が注目したのは、とても良く考えられた「曲順」です。
ヒット曲『野風増』から入り、パワー溢れる『どんまいどんまい』や『何かいいことないかな』等を中盤に、最後は余韻に浸れる、叙情豊かな『旅的途上』で締める。聴き終えた時には「英五ワールド」にどっぷりハマっている・・・そんな逸品です。

このCDは英五さんの生前に発表されたもの。英五さんの死後、何枚かベスト盤が発売されましたが・・・それらと比べても、私はより完成度の高いこのＣＤを勧めます。

ただ、生前に発表されたものだけに、当然ながら遺作である『旧友再会』は収録されていません。本当に仕方のないことですが、英五さんの「ベストオブベスト（帯より）」としてならば、その一点のみ残念。

何はともあれ、ずっと大切に聴きつづけたい一枚です。

数年前に「永遠の旅人」となってしまった英五さん。しかしその歌声は、これからも多くの人に感動を与え続けることと思います・・・。

私は大学で学ぶ若造ですが、大学入学前から河島英五さんの曲をよく聴いています。多くの方と同じように「酒と泪と男と女」から入り、そして英五さんの、飾りっけのないストレートな世界に惹かれ、手にしたのがこのアルバムでした。そして、このアルバムのおかげで英五さんのことがますます好きになれました。河島英五＝「酒と泪と男と女」とだけ思っている人にも聞けば聞くほど深い世界がそこにはあることでしょう。このアルバムには優しく心に沁みこんでくる歌も多く入っています。

選曲は、「河島　英五」を知るための重要不可欠な曲ばかりで申し分ないです。名曲ぞろいです。しかし歌声的には、他のアルバムの別テイクの方が良いものが多多ありますので　評価の分かれるところです。何枚かお持ちの方がコレクションとして逆に買う方が良い作品です。初めての方は他のベスト盤ＣＤをオススメしますｖ
