ユニコーンのアルバムでは最高傑作といわれている４ＴＨ。
このアルバムからセルフプロデュースとなり、
より自由な創作活動ができるようになった。
その甲斐あって、パワー全開といえる作品になっている。
単なるロックバンドの枠を飛び越え始めた作品だ。

バラエティーに富んだ色々なタイプの曲が１４曲収録されていて、そのどれもが独創的で高品質。ソングライターやヴォーカリストが何人もいるバンドの強み。それにしても素晴らしい作品です。最も近いのは、中期ビートルズか。それくらいの傑作。

実はこれ出た'９０年に買って相当聴き込んでいたのだが、金欠時に泣く泣く手離してしまったのだ。つい最近このamazon.comのユーズドコーナーにて安価で買い直したのだ。改めて聴いてみてこの充実ぶりに驚いたよ。冒頭からラグタイム風のリズムに歌詞の内容はホテトル嬢との逢瀬（？）、間奏でサントラの傑作「第３の男」テーマの口笛を引用。以降、登場する音楽スタイルはオルガン多用のフォークロック調やワルツ風の叙情ポップ、ウルトラセブンのテーマ等サンプリングした打ち込みポップ、スラッシュメタルに載せて事務所の住所を叫んでるだけのもの等。歌詞の題材は結婚、過剰労働、出社拒否、ひきこもり等シニカルかつシュールなもの多数。昔夢中になった音楽ってその後の音楽体験を経て久しぶりに聴くと妙に薄っぺらく感じてしまうものも多いのだが、この作品に関しては色々な音楽を聴いてきたからこそ更に深く味わえてしまうというまさしく名盤。もう絶対に売りません。

ユニコーンのアルバムを紹介すると、どれもこれもが傑作ということになってしまうのですが、このアルバムの収録曲の歌詞は特に秀逸です。

とてもやばい人間を静かに歌う（静かに歌うから怖い・・・）「エレジー」、死んだ男を明るく歌う（普通は暗くなる筈なのに・・・）「リンジューマーチ」、演歌調の愛情物語のようなタイトルなのに実はラブホテル連れ込み唄「命果てるまで」、奥田民生はボーカリストとしてのセンスだけでなく作家としてのセンスも天才的だとしか言い様がありません。

コロンブスの卵的な斬新な試みの曲が詰まった至高のアルバム。
もちろんオススメの一枚です。
ああ、生きているうちにこんなアルバムが聴けて本当によかった！！
