かの「田園」を収録したヒット作品。だが，その一言で片付けられるほどに単純な作品ではない。

「田園」や「ＳＰＥＣＩＡＬ」で，本作を通して彼が確立した新たなイメージである「陽気さ」「明るさ」を爆発させながらも，「スター」では安全地帯時代から彼の十八番であるラブソングを見事に聞かせてくれる。一方，「フラッグ」では都会的な風景のなかで荒廃しつつある何かを感じさせ，ファンの間では名曲とされる「メロディー」ではそれまでの何とも違った新たな玉置浩二の顔を見せている。

「田園」のヒットに牽引されながらも，そのイメージだけでは収まらない程に玉置浩二は「多面的」「多様」で「多義的」なアーティストであることを誇示した作品。次の年に発表される『ＪＵＮＫ　ＬＡＮＤ』と共に!名作である。

おそらく北海道出身であるその背景をストレートに出した作品。中でも田園での乱暴ながらも、そこに潜むメッセージはやはり年月を感じるものがあります。その説得力にはそこらへんのアーティストでは出せないものが。そして最後のメロディー。全ての日本人にこれほどただ曲を聴くだけで、それぞれの人生をイメージさせる曲はなかなかないのでは無いでしょうか。

｢田園｣のヒットにより玉置ソロでもっともヒットしたアルバムに
なりました。
これは自分の中の満足感に過ぎないのですがこの中に収録されている
｢スター｣という曲はギターによるアレンジと優しくささやくように唄う
泣ける曲なのですがこの曲シングルとしてリリースされましたが
正直売れませんでした。
でこのアルバムがヒットしたときに『ああこの曲も大勢の人に聞いてもらえるんだ』と嬉しくなったのを覚えています。
それ以外にもフランキー境さんに捧げられた｢ファミリー｣、
アルバムタイトルでもありめちゃのりのりの｢カフェジャパン｣、
聴いただけで誰もが昔に想いを馳せ泣いちゃうかもしれない｢メロディ｣。
この曲はまじでいい。この曲は後世に残さなきゃいかんと思います。
そしてちょっとえっちな｢ハニービー｣。この曲はよくコンサートでも
歌われており、意外に自分も好きだったりする（たまにはいいよね）
ここで忘れていけないのがプロデューサー須藤晃の存在だ。
彼は｢コール｣というシングルからの付き合いになりますが
やはり｢カリント工場の煙突の上に｣から始まった二人のやりたい音楽を
突き詰めた結果が｢田園｣を通して一般リスナーに届いたのだろう。
まだ日本の音楽は死んでいない。よしよし。
この作品で玉置さんを知った方には他の作品にも是非触れて欲しい。
その温かさに。その不器用さに。その優しさに。
