なつかしい永ちゃんの曲に、やんちゃだったあの頃の自分がよみがえる。
当時はハードなリズムが好きだったが、40歳を前にして聞きなおしてみる
とスローなバラード調が胸にせまる。
中でも「チャイナタウン」は名曲だと思う。なんともいえない哀愁のメロ
ディがたまらない。
他にも「古いラヴ・レター」や「時間よ止まれ」「バーボン人生」などは、
時間を超えて愛される曲だと思う。
「バーボン人生」を聞きながら自分の人生を振り返るのもいいだろう。

~シャープながらも優しさが感じられる裏ジャケットの写真、この若さで「バーボン人生」を歌っていたかと考えると凝縮された人生を感じてしまいます。

矢沢的な歌の世界とは別世界で生活をする私が矢沢永吉を聞いてしまうのは、私が抱える問題の答えそのものを見つけられるからではなく、私の抱えるようなちっぽけな問題など軽々とクリアしていっただろう矢沢永吉の姿に勇気づけられるからです。

2003年のYAZAWA~~ CLASSICで演奏されていた「バーボン人生」のオリジナルが聞きたくて買ったこの一枚には、名曲がぎっしりと詰まっていました。~

かれこれ30年程前だが、私が住んでいた京都府下の田舎のコンサートホールで矢沢永吉のライブが行われたことがある。当時は洋楽に嵌っていてそれほど熱心なファンでは無かったので、自分は行かなかったのだが、彼のライブには近隣の暴走族が一挙に集まるという噂が直前に流れ、私の通っていた中学校でも先生方やPTAから、矢沢のライブには決して行くなとのお触れが出されたりして、ちょっとした騒ぎになったことがあった。それでも行くやつは行っていたが。まだ、J-POPなんて言葉も無く、日本でロックに市民権など無く、テレビの歌番組はアイドル歌謡と演歌以外は考えられない時代のことです。暴走族は結局たいして来ませんでしたが。
矢沢永吉の音楽は、楽曲のスタイルがロックとか何とか言う以前に、彼独特の価値観、美学、ボーカルスタイルなど全てが唯一無二の存在であり、その音楽を通してヒリヒリするような熱いモノを当時の中学生に伝えてくれたのだと思う。不良としてのロックであり、ちょっとヤバい大人の世界への憧れを与えてくれたところなど、俗社会との距離感が絶妙だったと思う。
30代半ばになって急に矢沢永吉をまた聞きたくなり、本作を購入したのだが、それから10年、いまでもたまに無性に聴きたくなることがある。

永ちゃんの曲はキャロル時代のがあまりにも良かったせいかジャンルにあてはめるとすると永ちゃんだけのジャンルだな。
