このアルバムは、レコードで言うA面の5曲（CDでは前半の5曲）がポルトガル録音、そしてB面の5曲が東京でのスタジオ録音になっている。「異邦人」がヒットした頃から、久保田早紀が影響を受けた音楽のひとつにポルトガルのファドっていう音楽があるってことは、当時良くラジオで聞いた。だから、ポルトガル録音は、彼女にとっては必然だったのかも知れない。

久保田早紀の作品には一貫して「ここではない、どこか」に対する渇望が見られる。自ら「異邦人」であることを自覚した久保田早紀は、心の平静を「天界」に求めたもののそれは見つからず、このアルバムでは異国の中に感じる郷愁（サウダーデ）に身をゆだねようとしている。

この『サウダーデ』、驚くのはそのポルトガル録音（前半の5曲）はすべてポルトガルギターなど、哀愁の効いたギターのみのバックなのだけれど（アレンジをは萩田光雄氏）、全く単調になることもなく、久保田早紀のメロディーや詩の世界とぴったり合っている。驚くほどに全くの違和感がない。

アナログで言うA面では、ポルトガル録音ってことを意識したのか、ヨーロッパでの風景を切り取ったような歌が並ぶ。ここでは久保田早紀の詩の才能があふれている。まるでストーリーテラーという感じ。

このアルバム、A面はポルトガル録音、B面は東京録音ってことで、A面とB面のギャップが心配されるところなんだけど、不思議とそんな違和感を感じない。多分、”郷愁”（サウダーデ）っていうテーマを音楽的にも詩的にもなぞっているからだと思われるけど。。。それが、ポルトガルギターで表現されても、B面のように萩田さんお得意のオーケストラを大きくフューチャーしたサウンドになろうとも。。。
B面のオープニングは、大好きな「サウダーデ」。まるでヨーロッパ映画の主題歌にしても似合うようなメロディーとテーマ。う~ん、美しい。というか、この曲自体が、まるでこの頃の久保田早紀のテーマソングって言ってもいいかも知れない。

とにかく、このアルバムは久保田早紀の傑作アルバムでしょう。孤高のシンガー、久保田早紀の孤高の美しさがひっそりと、でも力強く咲き誇っている

泣ける・・・とにかく懐かしい学生時代に引き戻されました。悲喜交々のあの頃の思い出が甦りとても感慨深く聞き入りました。ポルトガル録音の「異邦人」は、1人で聞くと回想モードにはいれます。

前半５曲は、ポルトガルのリスボンで録音されています（1980年）。地元の著名なギタリスト達が参加している、１００％アコースティックです。一曲目の「異邦人」は、聴き慣れたオーケストラのそれとは違い、ポルトガル語の女性のナレーションで静かに始まります。彼女の声が心に染み入ります。

後半５曲はオーケストラによります。ピアノを羽田健太郎氏が弾いています。後半が悪いという訳では、もちろんありません。欲を言えば全曲アコースティックにして欲しかったという事で、☆４つです。
しかし、新しいアルバムが出ないということは、ホント残念です。
