　フォーク界のプリンス・よしだたくろうが一殻を破って、独特の音楽センスを発揮したアルバム。
　「からっ風のブルース」や「春の風が吹いていたら」でけいこ夫人とデュエットしているところも、今となっては懐かしい。ヒットした「伽草子」は、拓郎節を感じながら、ヒット性を感じたものでした。これらの曲の中でひときわ際立つのが、弾き語りしている「制服」や「暑中見舞い」。垢抜けした拓郎でも、なぜかしらアコースティックがいいんです。この「制服」や「暑中見舞い」も、一生懸命ギター・コピーしたものでした。
　全体的には、まとまりのあるものになっており、メロディ・メーカーとしてのイメージを形作り始めた感じがするアルバムです。

ＬＰ発売時にリアルタイムで買って聴いていましたが当時はそれ以前のアルバムに比べると今一つ好きになれませんでした。多分サウンドがちょっと変ったせいだろうと思います。特に柳田ヒロのキーボードがピーピコピ~ピコずっとなっているのが耳障りで嫌いでした。が、後年このアルバムが大好きになりました。私も大人になって価値観が変ったのでしょう。ともあれそれ以前とはちょっと変わった雰囲気のアルバムだと思います。意外と良い曲も多いですよ。

　拓郎とBeatlesを平行して論じる意味があるのか、私自身も疑問だ。

　それはそれとして、拓郎の出現は、「古い船を動かせるのは古い水夫ではないだろう」というBeatlesで例えればトニー＝シェリダンとのドイツでの録音のようなものだ（トニー＝シェリダンと違って、同じテイクを手を変え品を変えて、年度も売り出さないところだろう）。そして、マイナーレーベルを経て、BeatlesならＥＭＩにたどり着いたわけだ。ここで、彼は安直な道を歩まなかった。
　岡林信康が田舎にこもり、高田渡さんたちはマイナーにとどまってる仲で、吉田拓郎は、「フォークのプリンス」として、反骨精神を旨とするこの世界で安楽な道を過ごせたはずである。
　しかし、彼は、小室等の率いるバンドの女性ボーカルと結婚し、「結婚しようよ」「旅の宿」などを出す。
　僕の見たコンサートでも拓郎には「帰れ」コールが巻き上がった。
　拓郎の凄いところは、そういう声を無視して、「俺は俺の道を行く」と引き下がらなかった点である。

　「元気です」の次に発売されたメジャー第二段のこのアルバムには、そういう事情が出てこないが、当時を知っているものとしては、このアルバムが、「ライブを止めるよ」というサインを出したBeatlesのラバーソールに思える。
