杏里といえば「夏」のイメージがあるけれど、「CHRISTMAS CALENDER」や「スノーフレイクの街角」など冬の曲もしっくりくる。また、「砂浜」は小さい頃から特に好きだった曲だったので、あの頃とまた違った杏里の歌声でこの曲が聴けて嬉しい。彼女の代表的なバラードであろう「SUMMER CANDLES」や「LOVERS ON VENUS」は本当に「聴かせる」。最近の杏里の曲はほとんどを吉元由美が作詞していて、私は個人的にあまり吉元さんの詞には惹かれないのだけれど、杏里が歌うと、まさに「命を吹き込む」といった感じで活き活きとしてくるから不思議。

杏里のデビュー以来のファンで、これまでずっと杏里の歌なら無条件で愛好してきました。ですので、一部の熱心な方のような「門松敏生プロデュースでなければ杏里じゃない」とか「カバー曲なんか聴きたくない」とか、そういうやかましいこと（？）はいっさい言いません（笑）。とにかく、杏里の歌はすべて愛しています。
そういうわけで、杏里の作品については評価が極めて甘くなるのですが（汗）、このアルバムは、前作『16th Summer Breeze』の続編的な位置づけの作品で、杏里の1980年代以降の代表作を25曲、すべてリテイクで収録したもので、魅力ある曲がずらりと並んでいて、とても価値が高い作品と思います。
中でも“Good-Night for You”、“晩夏の恋人たちへ”、“Summer Candles”、“Oasis”、“Lovers On Venus”などはオリジナルとは違った魅力ある表現で聞きどころと思います。アルバムタイトル通りの傑作揃いです。
杏里の歌声の美しさと高い歌唱力は、すでに屈指のものがありますが、彼女は漫然と同じように歌い続けるタイプの歌手ではなく、つねに新しい表現を求めてチャレンジと前進を続けてきたアーティストで、デビュー以来のなじみ深いヒット曲を収めたこのアルバムでもそれぞれの曲の表情はまったく新鮮なところに、アーティスト・杏里の魅力を感じます。したがって、聞き慣れた原曲の味つけをベストと感じる人には違和感があるかも知れませんが、それだけをもってこの作品を全否定するのは早計と思います。
グレート・アーティスト杏里の1995年の貴重な記録として、とても高い価値があります。
なお、前作『16th Summer Breeze』とは曲目のダブりはありませんので、安心して買い求めることができるでしょう。
また収録曲のセレクトにご不満の方もあったようですが、しょせんこのような企画では、すべての方の望みを満足させることは不可能ですし、ひとくちに「ファン」と言っても、愛好する曲の傾向や間口の広さは人さまざまですから、あたかもご自分がすべてのファンの代表であるかのような断定的・否定的なご意見はどうかと思います。
商品の構成は12cmＣＤ2枚組25曲プラス、ボーナス8cmに未収録曲“ハートのリング・ア・ベル”を収め、しゃれたカートン・ボックス入りで、カラー写真入りブックレットが2冊（1冊は歌詞カード）附属しています。ただ、最近主流のスロット・ローディング型のＣＤドライブでは、8cmＣＤはどうにもなりませんが・・・
やはり彼女の歌を無条件で愛せるファンなら、一度は聴いておくべき魅力ある作品であることは間違いありません。

音楽業界の方で、ファンには内緒で勝手に選曲したＣＤを
「ベリーベスト」とか、「スーパーベスト」、「グレイテスト・ヒッツ」と名付けるが、
最終的にスーパーベストとかを決めるのは聴く方、つまり私達なのだ。
ちなみにこのＣＤ、選曲がナンセンスすぎて、さすがにベストとは呼べない。
もしも、ファンに認められたければリクエスト投票で「本当に聴きたい曲」を集めるか、
入手困難なオリジナル盤を再リリースするしかない。
