４枚目の問題作「生活」の後に出てもおかしくなかったかもしれないアルバム。宮本さんはかなり怒りまくっています。
１曲目の「奴隷天国」が当時ＴＶ番組でライヴで放送された時、目をひん剥いて「なに笑ってんだよ、なに頷いてんだよ、おめえだよ！おめえだよ!!そこの！オラ、そこの！」と、得意のカニ歩きをしながら、客をすごい形相で指差しながら睨みつけていて、番組をただ見に来ていたお客さんは全員顔がひきつっていました。
当時のエレカシのライブはただ黙って凝視するしかできない雰囲気がありました。当時の宮本さんは怖かったです。

ようやく入手し、聴く事が出来ました。タイトル曲のイメージが強すぎて、評判もなかなかすごくて（！？）どれだけ凄まじいアルバムだろう？と恐る恐る聴いてみましたが、何と意外やポップではありませんか！聴き易い。これはまさに、エレカシ前後期のど真ん中、過渡期と呼ぶべき作品だと思います。
なぜ廃盤になったのか、さっぱり分かりません。いいアルバムなのに。そして、復活おめでとう！良かったです。

良くも悪くもアルバムタイトルにもなっている「奴隷天国」の印象が強く、また他のアルバムに共通する哀愁や切なさを感じる曲が少ないために、アルバムの評価はあまり高くないようです。

しかし、ただ宮本の独白を聞いているだけで、自分の心と共振する部分があり、気が付くと自分の人生を重ねてしまっている。全く聞き手の同調を求めないスタンスでありながら、共感を生む独特の詩と感情描写はやはり素晴らしいと思います。

「果てしなき日々」や「道」「おまえはどうだ」などは、他のアルバムにある「花男」「珍奇男」「東京の空」など代表作と呼ばれる曲にも劣らない感情がこもった強い曲です。また「寒き夜」の美しいメロディーと文学的な情景描写はエレカシ全曲を通じても名曲中の名曲だと思います。「寒き夜俺は月を見ていた。細き月を。。」「寒き日に俺は古き地図を持って町に出てゆく。。」まさに宮本の生活スタイルそのもののような気がします。
