83年に作られたコンピレーション「NO DAMAGE」以降92年までの楽曲を集めたコンピレーション。
僅か2年間の活動を1枚に纏めた第1弾に比べると、84年以降あまりに毛色の違うアルバムを作ってきた佐野元春なので、統一感を保つのは難しかったと思われる。
何とかはみ出し過ぎない曲を新録音を含め纏めあげられている。それでもオリジナルアルバムを聞いた後ではそれぞれの曲の出展先が思い浮かぶほど、ランダムに並べられているように感じてしまう。

ニューレコーディング、未発表レコーディングが4曲、シングルバージョン2曲、ニューエディットが2曲。ヒット曲「約束の橋」はオリジナルバージョンの方が出来が良いと思えるし、アルバム未収録曲の再収録もNO DAMAGEとは違い一切無い。
何より「NO DAMAGE」はGreatest Hitsでは無いという思いが込められていたが、このアルバムにはフロントカバーに堂々とGreatest Hits 84-92と書かれている。
佐野元春に深い思いのある人にとっては、NO DAMAGEのタイトルが付けられた事に抵抗感を覚える人も多いだろう。

今となっては素晴らしいコンピレーションが他に組まれているので、このアルバムは熱心なファンが別バージョンを収集するための存在でしかないと思う。
これから佐野元春のコンピレーションを初めて手にしようとする人には「20th Anniversary Edition」「THE SINGLES Epic Years」」をお勧めします。

選曲が素晴らしいベストアルバムで長く聴いても飽きないし、耳障り感が全くない。
このため、佐野元春ファンでなくとも単純な作業などを行う時にお薦め。

このレコードに収められている曲は、どちらかといえばすごくポップな歌たちで、特に１曲目のニューエイジの、「数えきれないイタミのキス、星くずみたいに降ってくる」という言葉の鮮烈さに、僕はとてもポップを感じます。
