「走りすぎていくタクシー　西行きのバスのクラクション」「馴れた顔ぶれがダンスの森に集う」「彼女はうつろなマーマレード」佐野元春の豊かなポエトリー表現はまさに先駆的で、彼の音楽をまねたミュージシャンは多いけれど、彼の詩を継承できたアーティストは誰もいないと思う。

都市にあふれる詩情。次々と紡ぎ出される啓発的な言葉の群れ。佐野元春の数あるアルバムの中でも、最も鋭角的なサウンドと歌詞で綴られたこの「VISITORS」は今聴いてもおそろしく刺激的だ。このアルバムに啓発されたのは、ミュージシャンだけでなく、きっと多くの詩人もそうだったに違いない。

僕は佐野元春の音楽によって、言葉というものの魅力、都会の持つ詩情というものを知ることができた。この「VISITORS」はそういう彼の作品の中でも頂点に立つ緊張感と革新性に満ちている。彼の軽快なメロディーにのって流れる言葉の美しさは、どうにも抵抗できないほど魅力的だ。こういう良質で革命的でもあった彼の作品は、確かに多くのフォローワーを生み出し、日本のポップスの方向を決定付けたように思えるが、結局のところ佐野元春自身に匹敵するだけの作品はでてきてないようにも見える。
「VISITORS」は、多分現代の日本文化の核として存在しつづけている、熱いマントルのようなものだ。もう一度たくさんの人がこのアルバムを訪れ、新たな表現の地平を切り開いていってくれたら、素晴らしいと思う。

１９８０年代前半のＮＹのムードを伝えてくれた名作。

たまたま『「３日坊主」でも使いこなせる手帳術（岡崎太郎氏著）』を読んでいたら、
このアルバム製作の為にＮＹに滞在していた佐野元春の生活を伝える
ＦＭラジオ放送を聴いてＮＹに憧れたという話を読んだ。
そうだ、当時このアルバムを聴いた若者にはＮＹ熱がさざなみのように広がっていた。

音の厚みの中から当時のＮＹの街の雰囲気が良く伝わってくる。
佐野元春の代表作です。

VISITORS---このアルバムは、かつて誰にも作れなかった、そして、今でも作られていない、佐野の最高傑作の一つである。
　日本での成功を、一時棚上げし、それまでの音楽を全て捨てて新しい音楽に挑戦し、成功している。なによりも、スリーブに書いてあるwritten in N.Y.C. という文字が誇らしげだ。
　全8曲と曲数は少ないものの、全てをシングルカットするほどどの曲も完成度が高い楽曲に仕上がっている。なによりもニューヨークで作られ、録音されたという緊張感が強く感じられ、決して古さを感じさせない。このアルバムが20年も前に作られたということを誰が信じることができるだろうか?すべてのニューヨークへ行く人々にとってのmust-haveアルバムといってよい。
