お恥ずかしい話ですが、大江さんのファンになるきっかけは「ひょうきん族」に飛び入り出演し、明石家さんまさんの大ヒンシュクを買った姿を「かわいそうだな」という見方をしたことです。

高校が女子高だったので彼のファンは多かったのですが、何故か好きにはなれませんでした。「夜ヒット」のオープニングで「グローリー・デイズ」を力強く熱唱する彼の姿を見て一気にファンになった。

トリビア話ですが、「ローリング・ボーイズ・イン・タウン」のコーラスはあのデーモン小暮閣下です。

このアルバムの中にある「GLORY DAYS」という曲。
まだ中学生だった私の心に初めて響いた曲でした。
「君と出会えて良かった。愛だけが今、力になる・・・」
まだ「愛」なんて判らない私だったけど、ジーンと染みていきました。
このアルバムにはそんな心に染みる曲が沢山詰まっています。
彼のわかりやすい優しい歌詞は今の流行りの曲には無い聞きやすく、心地よい気持ちにさせてくれる何かがあります。

大江千里のひとつの完成品といえるのがこのアルバムであろう。他のアルバムもいいのだが、このアルバムはやはり完成度が高い。大江千里の音楽に対するこだわりがひしひしと感じられる。そして何年経っても最初に聴いた時の感動が同じように味わえるのだ。彼はこのころのインタビューで歌詞と曲が同時に出来ると言っていたが、これらの曲が本当にそうだとしたらまさに天才としか言いようがない。ぜひ手に入れて聴いていただきたい。きっと詩の素晴らしさ、メロディーの素晴らしさに感動するはずだから・・・
