　インディーズからのミニ･アルバムに続くメジャー･デビュー作。現在のスカパラとは同じスカという音楽を基本にしながらも少々異なる独特の雰囲気を持ってます。

　当時リーダーだったパーカッショニストAsa-Changの意向もあるのかラテン風の曲がいくつかあったり、故ギムラ氏在籍時の特徴の一つでもある昔の歌謡曲のカヴァーがあったりとヴァラエティに富んでいてとても楽しめる一枚になってます。個人的にはギムラ氏の名唱の中でも一番であると思っている「にがい涙」がベスト･トラック。スカパラの代表作の一つで現在でもライヴで欠かせないレパートリーになっている「モンスター･ロック」やCMにも使われた「仔象の行進」など代表作も数多く収録されている充実作といっていいでしょう。名作！

スカパラに初めて会ったのは高校生の頃。
スカと言えばレピッシュだった当時の私には、スカパラの大人のかっこよさは衝撃的でした。お揃いスーツで走り回りながら、超絶的テクニックで演奏するバカカッコいい男たちにすっかりメロメロでした（笑）
この頃のスカパラは、今のスタイルと違ってどこかムーディーであやしいテイスト。
当時パーカッション担当だったASA-CHANGが度々言ってた「東京スカにこだわりたい」という言葉が印象的。その言葉を体現するような、昭和テイスト漂う大人のバンドマン達が演奏するスカは、すごく大人っぽくて色っぽくてかっこいい！
本作で唯一歌ありの名曲「にがい涙」のボーカルは、スカパラのにおい担当のクリーンヘッド・ギムラ氏。歌謡曲テイストがいい味出してます！
本作からCMやTVに使われている曲も多いし、聞き覚えのある曲も沢山あるので、「あ~！！これスカパラだったんだ~！」なんていう、楽しい発見もあり。
今のスタイリッシュで軽やかなスカパラもいいですが、こういうディープで濃密なスカパラもいいもんですよ。
リアルタイムで知らない方にはぜひオススメしたい名盤です。

スカパラは年を重ねるにつれて、全年齢向けの軽快なスカへと移り変わっている。別に今のスカパラが悪いというわけではないが、やはり人にスカパラを勧めるとしたら、このファーストアルバム｢スカパラ登場｣を勧めるだろう。
結成当時からのリーダーASA-CHANGと今は亡き“臭い”担当のギムラさんがこのアルバムの中で健在し、今のスカパラとは違う雰囲気を醸し出している。個人的にはギムラさんの甘く切ない声が聞ける「にがい涙」がオススメ。
