日本でもすっかり御馴染みになった感のあるＧＫの、なんと２枚組の
ベスト･アルバム。収録されているどの曲も素晴らしい出来栄えで、
ベストの名に恥じぬものばかりなのですが、いかんせん構成がいまひ
とつ、の印象が拭えない気がします。
そのためか、個々の曲が、その持ち味を相殺してしまっているような…。

同じベスト版でも「グレイテスト・ヒッツ」の方が（収録曲に、この
アルバムのものと重複しているタイトルもありますが）より巧みに構
成が行われているせいか、曲の展開がスムーズで聴きやすいと感じま
した。
アレもコレも！と、チョット欲張ってしまったのかなー、と思える部
分が残念ですが、でもそれだけ良い曲を沢山持ってる、という見方も

できるのかも…？

結構、賛同してくれる人は多いのですが、ボーカルのトニーの声は松崎しげるに似ていると思います。野太いハスキーボイス。いわゆる美声ではなく、むしろ対極にある泥臭い声です。

しかし、ジプシー・キングスの歌を聴いていると、美声は歌い手にとって強力な武器かもしれないけれど、絶対条件ではないということがよく分かります。美声でないからこそ出せる力強さや哀愁こそが、彼らの音楽の魅力だと感じるのです。ボラーレやベン,ベン,マリアの強烈なまでのノリのよさ、ホテル･カリフォルニアやトゥ・キエレス・ボルベールの哀感はトニーの土臭いの声こそ似合います。
もちろん、曲自体のよさや演奏テクニックも彼らの強みで、それらはインストゥルメンタルの曲を聴くとしみじみと実感できます。

このＣＤは、ビール(発泡酒だったか？)のＣＭ曲でほとんどの人が耳にしたことのあるであろうボラーレや、鬼平犯科帖のエンディングに流れたインスピレイションを初め、彼らの有名どころの曲が網羅してあるので、初めて買う人にはお勧めです。

ジプシーキングスの名前は、今は解散してしまった“UNICORN”のメンバーお勧めの曲を集めたアルバムの中に入っていた『Soy(ソイ)』で知っていました。それから何年か後に、麒麟端麗のビールのCMで使われてるのを聴いて、もしや？と思い探しました。1曲しか知らないし、これは一気に聴きまくれるこのベスト版を見つけ、即購入しました。

ギターの音色、高くもなく低くもなく、ちょっとハスキーな歌声。テンポも良く、するっと耳に入って自然に口ずさめる曲の数々。歌詞カードにも、それぞれの曲の解説も詳しく載せてくれていますので、ジプシーキングスを知らない私でも、なるほど、へぇ…と思うところも多々ありました。

その中で、一番皆さんに聴いて欲しいなと思う曲は『Bem,Bem,Maria(ベン、ベン、マリア)』ですね。始まりからこのように聞こえます…

“あんたがぁ~た、ほ~れ見ぃ~や、車ないかぁ~~”

見事に聴こえるこの歌はヒットです。
軽快なのに暑苦しくない、このジプシーキングスの曲たち。
夏になると無性に聴きたくなる1枚です。

2枚組み、計38曲も入っています。そしてこのお値段は安いぃ。
かなりお勧めの1枚です。
