   アン・バートンは1989年に56歳で亡くなったオランダの女性歌手。本名アン・ラファロウィッチ。俳優のリチャード・バートンのファンだったので、そこからバートンと名乗るようになった。この人はアップ・テンポよりもスロー・バラードを好み、じっくりと語りかけるように、そして小声でささやくように、つぶやくように歌うのが特徴。73年以降、何度も来日して日本でも人気者だったが、大ホールより、こじんまりとしたクラブで歌うほうが断然サマになった。どこかはかなさを感じさせる彼女の歌声は、日本的なワビ・サビの情感とも相通じるものがあって、それで日本で熱烈に支持されたのではないか、などと思ったりする。
   彼女のデビュー作は67年録音の『ブルー・バートン』。本作はそれに続く69年録音のセカンド作で、スタンダードやポップ曲をゆったりとしたテンポで歌っている。バックはルイス・ヴァン・ダイク・トリオに一部サックスが加わる編成。シェール66年のヒット曲<3>も彼女が歌うとジャジーな仕上がりになって、ものすごく味わい深い。（市川正二）

美しいバラードの集大成。ゆったりとしたテンポの曲ばかりなので、眠る前に聴くと、心地よくなっちゃって最後まで聴けずに寝ちゃいます…。冬の静かな夜、暖かいココアを飲みながら聴きたくなるようなＣＤです。優しく切なげなアンの声色と、ルイス・ヴァン・ダイクの美しいピアノは相性抜群。スタンダードな曲はそんなに入ってませんが、ジャズを全然聴かないという人にも是非お勧めしたいです。
追伸：「THE SHADOW OF YOUR SMILE（いそしぎ）」という曲が好きな方、このＣＤに収録されているので聴いてみてください。

ジャズ初心者にも安心してお勧めできる1枚。
彼女の歌声は切なく、深みがあり、いつの時代にも廃れることのない味わいを持っています。
Diana Krallのモダンな歌声とは対照的に、すべてを包むようなほんのりとした暖かみを感じる彼女の歌声はロマンチックな2人の夜にぴったりです。「宵のひととき」と訳される1曲目で、私達の結婚式のラストダンスがさらに思い出深いものとなりました。

声の質、歌い方など、アン・バートンほどバラードの似合う歌手は、そうそう存在しない。有名な割りには寡作だったバートンのベストは、この盤と同じソニーから発売されている「ブルー・バートン」だ。情感いっぱいの「いそしぎ」だけを聴くだけでもこの一枚を持つ意味がある。アン・バートンと同じオランダの生んだ名手ルイス・ヴァン・ダイクのブルージーなピアノもいい。このオランダ人たちのジャズを聴くと、ジャズはアメリカ人のものだけではない、と、つくづく感じる。ヴァン・ダイクはＭ＆Ｉカンパニーから、「バラ−ド・イン・ブルー」という新譜をリリースしたが、そちらも名盤。（松本敏之）
