８０年代、ダウンアンダー（オーストラリア）が全世界に送り出した最も愉快なバンド、それが「メン・アット・ワーク」である。デビューアルバム及びシングルカットされた「ノックは夜中に」「ダウンアンダー」がビルボードで１位獲得という、オーストラリア出身のバンドとしては大快挙を成し遂げたのである。

中でも私は「ダウンアンダー」がとってもお気に入りである。学生時代に聞いていた曲であるが、２０年近く聞いていなっかた曲である。そんな私が最近また聞き出したのは、オーストラリア人の親友が出来たからである。彼の気を引こうと「メン・アット・ワーク」の話をして「ダウンアンダー」って「下に落ちる」っていうネガティブな意味だよねって聞いたら、「オーストラリア」って言う意味だよと笑って教えてくれた
。このアルバムを買ったらぜひ対訳を読んで欲しい。メロディー・歌詞ともに愉快な曲だってことを知ることになる。
そして、この曲を聞いた人みんなを愉快にさせるだろう。

オーストラリアに行ったら「メン・アット・ワーク」の話をして「ダウンアンダー」を歌えば、大歓迎されること間違いなし。（Welcome to　Australia)　なぜかって？彼らはオーストラリアの英雄だからさ。

最後に、「ダウンアンダー」で一番お気に入りのセンテンスをご紹介します。

Because I come from the land of pelnty ?

多分オーストラリア…
最近80'sのベスト盤を探しては買いまくってますが[コレ]は間違いなく[Best5]に入るバンドだと思います。
しかも[この1枚]で[普通の人]ならば全然満足出来る曲ばかりなので[30後半〜40台]の人達は即買いです。
聴き終わると、きっと懐かしさと嬉しさで満足出来る事、確かです。

ベストヒットUSA世代ならこれは 涙ものですよ。
実際 私も軽く涙しました（笑）
「ノックは夜中に」とか「マリア」とか あの頃がよみがえります。
ここで これを見つけられてよかったです。
