5.0 out of 5 stars 初恋の時に感じた淡い思いが蘇る1枚, 2005/3/5
初めてこのアルバムを手にした時、燃えるような恋をしていた僕がいけないのですが、恋する相手に優しい言葉を言われた瞬間の想いに似た、胸をギュっと締め付けられる感じのするメロディが随所に散りばめられていて、日常と変わらぬ場所にいても目を閉じると、彼らの地、スコットランド地方の秋口の情景が浮かんでくるような気がします。このアルバムジャケットと、歌詞カードに目を落としながら、ゆっくり流れる時間の中で日曜日の午前中を費やすのもいいかもしれません。
一時期の奥田民生、チューリップ、VelvetCrushのようなフォーキーで美メロ好きな方にはハズレのない1枚となることでしょう。

４ｔｈではノーマン、ジェラルド、レイモンドの３人それぞれが力を爆発させた、名曲揃いのアルバムであるがこの５ｔｈでは３人の力が１つになって４ｔｈとはまた違った力強い仕上がりになっている。特にコーラスワークが素晴らしく、４ｔｈに比べノイジーなギターが影を潜めたにもかかわらず、そのハーモニーの厚みによってパワフルな印象を感じる。全曲、ブックレットの写真をそのまま曲にしたような感じ。いつも輝いていて、聴くと曇りも晴れに変えてくれる、そんなアルバムである。

まさにこのタイトルがふさわしいアルバムだ。歌、ＴＦＣが誇る3人のソングライターの力がいかんなく発揮されており、前作グランプリを踏まえた、そこからまたぐっと奥行きを深めた、そんな素敵な仕上がりになっている。グラスゴーに行ってみたいなぁと思わせてくれるそんなレコードだ。こんなにいい歌、いいメロディが当り前のように彼等の中にある。それがとても嬉しいし、素晴らしいと思う。特にメロディアスなアーティストが受けている、ＵＫロックシーンの最近のバンド達と比較しても彼等の旋律、ハーモニーは群を抜いている。それは単なるメロディアスにおちいらない、天性のソングライティングが光っているからだ。このアルバムで、彼等はそれを証明した。これからもきっと良い曲を書き続けていくに違いない。蛇足だが、彼等の同朋的存在であるヴァセリンズ、ユージニアス、パステルズ、ＢＭＸバンディッツ、スープドラゴンズ、スーパースターなどもお薦めなので一聴の価値ありだ。彼等は個々の作品を聴いてみてもその能力の高さがうかがえるが、バンド間のつながりが非常に強く、互いのバンドを行き来するような間柄らしく、その動きも要注意だ。ヴァセリンズはカートコバーンの紹介で一躍その名を世界に広めたので知っている人も多いだろう。とにかくグラスゴーには素敵なやつらが楽しい事をやっていて、ＴＦＣもそんな中で最高の歌をまた、僕達の心に届けてくれたってわけですね。
ちょっと遠ざかるけどベルセバもいいな。ま、グラスゴーつながりで…（笑）
