デビュー作から二作目、タイトルもズバリ、「Celine Dion」の通り本当のセリーヌ自身の形が確立されたとも言えるアルバムです。極上なアダルト･コンテンポラリーの曲が連なり、それを丁寧にまるで糸を紡ぐように歌いこめる歌唱力は絶品です。セリーヌの曲に欠かせないダイアン･ウォーレン、アフェナシェフの佳作は勿論、プリンスが彼女の為に書いたWith this tearの変形自在の見事なヴォーカルには引き込まれます。前半、抑えて後半の徐々に謳い上げていくその伸びやかさ。これを聴くだけでも価値があると言えます♪静かな夜、そして深まる秋など、愛する人を思いながら聴く為に生まれたような初期セリーヌの傑作アルバムです。

日本では「パワー・オブ・ラヴ」や「マイ・ハート・ウィル・ゴー・オン（タイタニック愛のテーマ）」で有名なセリーヌだがこれらの曲が収録されているアルバムがリリースされる前にアルバム構成は同じで良曲揃いであったアルバムがこの2ndアルバム「セリーヌ・ディオン」です。日本でもヒットしたディズニー映画「美女と野獣のテーマ」はもちろん、アメリカでは「イフ・ユー・アースクドミー・トゥー」や「ナッシング・ブロークン・バット・マイ・ハート」もヒットチャートにあがり、５０万以上はセールスしていたのです。私がセリーヌを好きになったきっかけがこのアルバム、エモーショナルでハートに効いてくるスローバラードが沢山収録されています。

初めてセリーヌ・ディオンを知ったのは、
このアルバムでした。
オリジナルに編集したテープには、
「if i were you」が、必ず収録されていて
大切な方々にも贈り、喜ばれました。

それまでの苦労が、やっと実った記念すべき
アルバムだけあって、見事です。
