二〇世紀、最も評価された作品。グラミー賞７部門獲得。発売当時から現時点で５６００万枚売れている怒涛の作品。リマスターされるからこそ買っておきたい。　アルバムから、９曲中７曲のトップ10を生んだ。初のアルバム。マイケル・ジャクソンによる新しい時代のポップ音楽ーソウル基盤のポップーが前面に。彼がいなければ、今のダンス・ミュージック・シーンなどありえない。黒人音楽自体の台頭はなかった、究極の存在となった。 1当時は、度肝を抜くハードな曲だった。今では、牧草歌のように聞こえるが、サウンドの完成度が高い。 2落ち着いてすばらしい。この曲がさりげなく入っていることが、名盤であることを認識させてくれる。 3ファーストシングル、ポールとのデュエット。ポップ・チャートでは２位、ブラック・チャートで１位になったスロー・テンポのバラード調の曲。。 4　ヴィンセント・プライス、ホラー映画の大御所の声を収録。映像を知らない方は一度見たほうが。これがMTVでは二〇世紀NO1ビデオになっています。ホラー映画が当時のB級映画の粋を抜けた作品。ブロードウェイ、ホラー映画界を活気つけた。　音楽自体は、かっこよさが前面に押し出た作品。 5今夜はビート・イット　８０年代のウェスト・サイド・ストーリーと謳われた。この当時画期的に本格的にハード・ロックをブラック・ミュージックに取り入れ、ハイブリッドな音楽を見せ付けた。ギターはヴァン・ヘイレンが演奏。 6　永遠のダンス、永遠のダンスソング。　 7青年の心を捉えた哀愁漂う作品。当時のテクノ・サウンドをモロに使って見せた。8ジャネット・ジャクソンがバック・コーラスとして参加。キュートな曲。 9最後を締める最高の曲。ココまで、大人の愛を語られると涙がポロリ。完成度が高すぎる。クオリティーも尋常ではない。これ以降も、天才的なアルバムを出して、世界を制覇する。

世界で４７００万枚も売上、堂々ギネスブック入りをしているこのアルバム。
７曲もの全米ＴＯＰ１０ＨＩＴを収録し、そのうち２曲は全米ＮＯ．１！
このアルバムから生まれたショートフィルムスリラーは言わずと知れたモンスターヒット！
洋楽を聞くものにとっては、このアルバムを聴かずして通るわけには行きません。
