もちろんJB流の「ファンキーソウル」は前からあったし、「ファンキーな音楽」は山ほどあったけど、70年代「ファンク」の新生を宣言したのはこれでしょう。それまでのファンキーソウルにロック的なものを入れて新たに作り直した、といったかんじでしょうか。

一曲目スタンド。これを初めて聞いた時、途中まではどこがファンクなのか全くわからなかった。かっこいいけどロックだと思った。でも2分20秒くらいにラリー・グラハムのベースラインが特徴的なビートを弾き出して、すごくファンクな音楽が現れる。「スタンド」ってこういう意味かって思った。ロックの中でファンクが立ち上がる、という象徴的な曲。

というわけで名作なので、リマスター祈願。今のままだと音に古さを感じてしまう。星四つなのはそう!いうこと。

闘争を叫び、希望を謳う「ハレ」のスライが堪能できる一枚。
極上のファンクであり、超高性能ロックンロールであり、ダンスミュージック。
黒人音楽を全方位的に解放したスライが、ポップミュージック史にその名を刻む巨大な一歩です。
お薦め。

このアルバムのもともとの音源は古いけど、音のつくりなどほんとカッコイイ！Slyが活動していた時期まだ私は生まれていなかったけどホント新鮮に聞こえるし、底抜けにハイな曲だし、めっちゃパワフルで、今の暗い世の中も明るくしてくれそうな感じの1枚だとおもいます！！
