このアルバムは聴いてて楽しくもあり感傷的にもなれます、個人的には「ハーバーライツ」と「ミッドナイトフライト」がお気に入りです、季節を問わず、恋するカップルからシングルまで永遠のＢＧＭとしてお奨めのアルバムです

リリース当時、プロモーションで省吾さんが今は亡き松宮さんの深夜のラジオ番組で色々語っていたのを思い出します。１~７がサーフバウンドで８~１２がスノーバウンドです。前半はビーチボーイズへのリスペクトでしょうか。１２はアルバムヴァージョンよりもＣＴＩしています。特に５、１０は夏・太陽、冬・クリスマスの夜を歌った省吾さんのナンバーのベストだと思えます。

85年にアナログ盤で発売していたクリスマスミニアルバムの『Club Snowbound』の後、87年リゾートアルバム『Club Surfbound』の発売に伴い両作を初めてCDとして一枚にまとめ同時発売した作品です。浜田氏の「一緒にしたものが一つの完成品だと思っている」と述べる通り私も夏と冬を併せることで初めて一貫した効果や効用が生れていると感じます。
かたちとしては80年の松任谷由美『SURF&SNOW』を思い出させますが、作品の精神性から言えば山下達郎の『BIG WAVE』に近くフィル・スペクターやビーチ・ボーイスを大いにリスペクトしたサウンドです。

さざ波の音から始まり愛奴時代の名曲「二人の夏」が吹いてきます。このドゥワップから浜田省吾は始まったわけですが、今作で愛奴時代からの盟友、町支氏の洗練された編曲やエンジニアの技術も加わり透明感が増し、曲の魅力は更に開花しました。ファルセットも澄んで美しいです。2「Gear Up 409」も海風誘うコーラスワークが決まりますね。5のプールサイドでトルストイという風景は新鮮でした。
この前半の『Surfbound』楽曲では共にツアーに出たミュージシャンへの恩返しのつもりで作曲を担当してもらったそうです。それでいてばらばらにならず、統一された涼しさや心地よさが保たれます。

後半『Snowbound』楽曲は大好きなフィル・スペクターなどのアメリカン・ポップスへの憧憬を遊び心と共に大真面目に取り組んだクリスマスソング。
9は「50年代のコースターズとか、ドリフターズのドゥワップにシャッフルのリズムを」、10について「フィル・スペクターやロネッツのようなエコーの効いたサウンドに」という浜省の言葉が残っています。この10は『Wasted Tears』収録の傷心のスローバラードとはまた違い、オーバーダビングによる分厚い音により、美しい夜景の灯り一つ一つが浮かぶようなサウンドで、エンジニアの手腕が生きています。
