伊藤左千夫「野菊の墓」は、何度も映画化されているが、なんと言っても一番秀逸なのは、モノクロのこの版である。
ヒロイン民子役の少女の可憐さ。
周りの人の思惑に、無残につぶされた幼い恋。
中でも泣けるのが、今は老人となった正夫が、「死ぬ前に一度」と舟で故郷におもむく、という設定である。

この人は、敗戦もくぐりぬけ、何とか今は人並み以上の暮らしをしているだろうに、そんなになっても、忘れられない、何十年も前の悲しい恋なのだ。
