この映画はあのマドンナがツアー先のホテルで暇な時よく借りて見ると言われるぐらいあって素敵な映画です。きわどいセックス描写だけではなく、人間にとって大切な「神聖な未知の力」までも描ききった名作だと思います。ヨーロッパの危なく官能的で美しいムードを味わいたい方にお勧めです。音楽もなんか大好きです。

ゲイの作家がレズビアン(らしい)女性の魅力に惹かれていくうちに彼女の罠にはまっていく姿を描いた作品で、その後のポール・バーホーベン映画の要素が詰まった作品です。スプラッタ色溢れる交通事故シーンなど視覚的な意味だけではなく、＜赤＞という色が重要なテーマとして登場するなど精神分析学的な意味でも楽しめる作品なのですが、主人公の作家の言動が他のどの登場人物の言動にも増して異常なので見ている側が少しも感情移入出来ないどころかストーリーから完全に取り残されてしまうという内容以前の部分に難点がある作品でもあります。

美貌の美容室経営者クリスティーンと出会い惹かれあう小説家ジェラルド。彼女にはハーマンと言う恋人がいるのだが、実は過去に３度結婚し３度とも事故で夫を亡くしていた。果たして３人の夫たちは殺されたのか。とすると４番目の男はどっち・・・。ヴァーホーヴェン監督オランダ時代のスリラー。ちなみに撮影は『スピード』のヤン・デ・ボン。オランダ時代のヴァーホーヴェン作品はほとんどヤン・デ・ボンが撮影しています。作品のテイストが『氷の微笑』に良く似ていますねぇ。おそらく、『氷の微笑』はこの作品のセルフリメイクを意識して作られたのでしょう。現実か空想かわからないところに、死や惨劇をイメージさせる映像が忍び込んでくる感じとか、セックスと死が表裏になっている描写、観客に確かな理解を与えないエンディングなどなど、ヴァーホーヴェンらしさが十分の秀作。ですが、のちの『氷の微笑』などの方が全体の緻密さ、完成度は上です。
