   かつて連続殺人事件が起きたエルム街。ある日、同じ高校に通う4人はナイフの長い爪をつけ、赤と緑のストライプのセーターを着た男に襲われる夢を見る。夢は現実となり、同じ夢を見た4人は悪夢の男に次々と惨殺されてしまう。1人残されたナンシーは悪夢の男に立ち向かおうとするのだが…。
   リアリティーのなさから恐怖は感じないが、ホラー映画の醍醐味であるモンスターの強烈なキャラクターや、（不謹慎だが）見事な惨殺シーンは必見。足が階段に沈んでしまったり、受話器から舌が出てきたり、夢の中では何でも起こることを利用した幻想的なシーンの数々は、観る者に強い印象を焼きつける。主人公のボーイフレンド役は、ジョニー・デップ！ 本作が映画デビューとなったジョニーの初々しい演技にも注目。（ビーンズおがわ）

なんと言ってもこの発想はすばらしいです！夢の中に出てくる殺人鬼のﾌﾚﾃﾞｨ。そして主役のﾅﾝｼｰとの戦いです。ﾎﾗｰにしては結構ﾒﾙﾍﾝな部分もあり、楽しんで観れました！夢の中で殺されると、現実の世界でも死んでしまうのです。そして、子供が歌う数え歌が耳に残って離れません！あと、あの初々しいｼﾞｮﾆｰ･ﾃﾞｯﾌﾟも最高です。

　ウエス・クレイブン監督はホラー映画一筋らしいが、本作品はコメディのようだ。夜にトイレに行くのが怖くなるような映画かとおもったら全然そうではなかった。どうしてか。たとえば、ティナを守るためにナンシーとグレンが部屋にあつまったときに、大音響とともにグレンが倒される。これは大変とおもいきや、悪友のロッドが飛びついて倒したのだった。よく使われる手ではあるが、映画を安っぽくするだけでいただけない。
　とはいえ、夢の中の殺人が現実になる、という着想は買える。映画としては並みの作品で三ツ星、着想を評価してプラス一つ、というわけで四ッ星にしたい。ウエス・クレイブンの手口というか癖は、窓から人が出入りしておどろかせるものらしく、この映画でも後の「スクリーム」でも多用される。しかし、この手で怖がらせることはできない。
　本作品は１９８４年の製作、１９８０年にはスタンリー・キューブリックの「シャイニング」がある。恐怖映画はどう作るのか何も学んでいないのだろうか。

強烈なキャラクターをホラー映画界に誕生させました。
焼けただれた皮膚、赤と緑の縞のセーター、帽子、そして右手に光る鋼鉄の爪のグローブ！！かっこいいです！
この後、何作も続きますが登場の衝撃度合いで１作目を超えることはないです。
このＤＶＤもカットされてますよね・・・・なんで？？
