何から書いていいのかわからないくらいすごい作品でした。凡人は「これを伝えたいからこう表現しよう」とか考えてしまうんですが、この監督は突き抜けています。下半身のドリルも突き抜けています。私も大概のことには驚かないのですがこれには驚き。

日本のSFファンタジー系映画が、出来に関わらず、イタリアの映画祭で歓迎されるのは、この作品の功績に因る所が大きいと思う。だが、現在、雨上がりのミミズのように増えたCGオンリー映画には、「鉄男」の精神の欠片もないものがある(もちろん全部がそうではない)。それは、現時点での技術の限界まで挑戦し、自分達にしか出来ないものを作ろうとする、クリエイターの創意工夫と、創造力である。「技術を駆使してこんなに凄い絵を作ってるのに、オツムの弱い観客が理解してくれない」「映像中心作品なのに、頭の固い批評家がストーリー偏重の批評をする」と悩むCGクリエイターは、特にこの作品を見てほしい。同じ映像中心の作品でも、「足りないもの」が理解できると思う。

劇場公開作品とはいえ単館ロードショー、おまけにモノクロ映画で1時間強という分数と、限りなく自主映画に近い本作は、スチームパンクという概念を最も実写映像で表現できた作品ではないだろうか。

「やつ」（塚本晋也）を轢き逃げした主人公（田口トモロヲ）が金属に侵されていき、「やつ」と対決するというストーリーは混沌としている。しかしそれ以上に体中を金属に包まれ、蒸気を噴射しながら「やつ」と戦う主人公の姿は強烈！　そしてラストの大暴走！　ストーリーを全て映像で語り、そして観ているだけで興奮できる本作は後にも先にも塚本晋也の、いや、80年代の和製ＳＦ映画の頂点であり続けるでしょう。観るべし！
