5.0 out of 5 stars ベルイマンの代表作, 2002/12/30
「チェスをする死神」「死の舞踏」等の宗教画をベルイマンが見てイマジネーションを膨らませ、ヨーロッパ中世の「ペストの大流行」「十字軍」「魔女狩り」等の当時の世相を織り交ぜ、一糸乱れず見事に中世の世界を蘇らせたベルイマンの手腕は神業に近いと思った。全体的に暗く不気味な雰囲気が漂っていたが、軽業師一家の場面になると、平和でほのぼのとした感じとなり良いアクセントを与えていた。城に死神が現れた場面における騎士の部下ヨンスが助けた女の顔の凍りついた表情は、素晴らしい。また、死神が木の上にいる男を殺すため、木を切る場面は、どこかユーモラスで秀逸な場面である。単なる恐怖映画ではなく、「人はどこから来てどこに行ってしまうのか」という哲学的な事を考えてしまうような、とても深い映画です。

この作品は、エンタテイメント性と、思考的な難解さを兼ね備えた数少ない作品である。

　文化も時代も違うクラシック映画を見て感動するという事は、その作品の中に人間の普遍的な本質が含まれているからではないだろうか。本作品はテーマが“生と死”であるだけに、私達はその普遍的な本質を自分の死と重ね合わせながら見る事ができる。そして“生と死の意味”を時代と文化を越え、問いかけられるのである。

なつかしのマツクス・フォン・シドー出演のＡＴＧ映画。小学生のときにはじめてこの作品を観たときには難解でしたが、今あらたに見直してみてベルイマン監督の映画の良さが味わうことが出来ました。 「第七の封印」という宗教色がかったタイトルはさほど気に懸けるには及びませぬ。どなたも名作が御覧になりたい方は、購入されるとよろしいでしょう。
