内容は、今でも色褪せていない本格（？）SFです。
終わり方はめでたし、めでたし調ですが、
本当はハッピーエンドではないんです。
テレビ放映ではカットされてると思いますが、
エンドロール後にも物語の続きがあり、
これがこの作品の肝だと思います。（といっても一瞬ですが…）

ハリウッド映画としてはハッピーエンドは仕方ないのかもしれませんが、ここまでハリウッド的だとしらけてしまいます。

フィリップ・K・ディックのファンとしては、「完全なる記憶」を取り戻したダグが真相に愕然とし、アイデンティティを崩壊させてしまうところでエンディング、という脚本にして欲しかったですね。アイデンティティの危機を迎えることなく、現在の自分（善玉）が過去の自分（本当の悪役）を葬るために戦うというのは、あまりに安直な気がします。『ブレードランナー』にしても『クローン』にしても、ディックの暗く救いのない物語をある程度消化してそれぞれに娯楽作品に仕立てているのですから。

まぁこれは好みの問題ですから、正義のヒーローのシュワちゃんがお好きで、同じシュワちゃんの『シックス・デイ』の設定（オリジナルとクローンが協力して悪役を倒す）に疑問を感じない方にはいいと思います。

バーホーベン監督のほとんど初めての商業的成功作ですし、この映画ではあまりぱっとしなかったですが若くて美しい時代のシャロン・ストーンが出演したということで、まだ見ていないファンの方は一応押さえておくべき作品です。

見た目は小さい子でも楽しめるようなふいんきなのですが（色んな宇宙人がでてきたり）私が小さい頃これを見てもよく話の意味がよくわからずつまらない作品だと最近まで思い込んでいました。

でもまた見る機会があり、考えがかわりました・・・結構これ奥が深いです。
未来の話なんですが主人公のシュワは平凡な日々に退屈したのかバーチャル体験ができる施設に行き自分の体験したい要望を上げます。
すると間も無くしてその施設を武装グループが襲ってきます、話の展開はシュワの要望に近いことばかり起きますが、施設が襲われていることからこれがシュワのバーチャル体験なのかそれとも現実なのか・・・最後の終わり方もそこには触れていないので見ていた側の判断にゆだねるといった感じでした。

真相を知りたい方はそれだけで２〜３度は見てしまうかもしれませんね・・・でも多分どっちかはわからないと思いますが。
