   女優である夫人の崔銀姫ともども北朝鮮に拉致・監禁されていた韓国の申相玉監督が85年に製作。翌年、彼らが決死の脱出を果たしたため公開を阻まれ、以後、長い間観ることのできなかった幻の怪獣映画。
   映画マニアと伝えられる金正日がいわばスポンサー兼プロデューサーなだけに、かなり贅沢な作りである。なかでも『ゴジラ』シリーズの東宝特撮チームやゴジラ俳優・薩摩剣八郎まで日本から招いて撮った王宮破壊の場面は迫力十分。1万人ものエキストラをつぎ込んだ合戦シーンも、これぞスペクタクルと興奮させられることうけあい。描かれているのは、暴政に苦しむ民衆が自ら生みだしたプルガサリの助けを得て、悪を討つというストーリー。ただし、それでめでたしめでたしとはならず、救世主もやがて邪魔者になってしまう暗転のラストが泣ける。（武内 誠）

１９８５年の映画なので、少々古い感は歪めませんが、とても良い出来の映画です。

ストーリーは１９６０年代の日本の「大魔神」シリーズと同様で、極悪な圧政者に苦しむ民衆の願いを受け生まれた怪獣｢プルガサリ｣が、暴れまわるというもの。
エンディングがとても哀しい作品。

今の日本の映画業界が失ってしまった「ゴジラ」などを撮っていた頃の、｢ハングリー精神｣がここにはちゃんとあります。
何せ、日本の「ゴジラ」のスタッフが撮った映画ですから、そういう意味でも「正統派」。

「怪獣｣が、単なる「動物」ではなく、民衆の怒りや自然の猛威などを体現していた頃の｢正統派怪獣映画｣のファンでしたら、まず、満足できる一編です。

　偉大なる領導者金正日同志が日本反動の大魔神をパクリ・・・じゃなくて参考にされて作られた映画です。劇中で使われている岩石が、どうみても発泡スチロールにしか見えなかったりするなど、共和国の映画制作に対する熱意が伺えます。
　偉大なる将軍様、マンセー！
