東洋的妖しさが魅力の時代劇アニメ。
声優と制作スタッフが実力派揃いで、今のアニメが霞むほどクオリティが高い。
とにかく、人の動きがリアルでいい。
しかも全部で6話も入っていてかなりお買い得。
ストーリー展開が不親切で、原作を知らないと話がわかりにくいのが唯一の欠点かな。

　下記にもあるように、このＤＶＤを見るときには滝沢馬琴の『南総里美八犬伝』のお話を頭にいれておく必要がある。
と、ともに、八犬伝に関するあらゆるメディアも平行して読んだり、
見たりするともっとこの作品の
奥深さや構成の意図等がわかるので、そういう方法もお薦め。

　それにしても、『南総里見八犬伝』って単なるＳＦ作品でないことがよくわかった。
この物語は、数奇で過酷な宿命を背負った少年~青年たちが、
あらゆる苦悩や葛藤を乗り越え成長していく話だったのだ~。

八犬士は誰一人として、平々凡々な人生を約束されて生まれていない。
皆、親が悲惨で残酷な殺され方して、自分自身も感受性の強い幼少期

に苦しい生き方を強いられたせいで、皆が皆それぞれ「ひねくれていく」。
　んでもって、そんな苦しい運命を「救う希望」であるのが八つの珠なのだ。
彼らが重大な危機、岐路に出会う度に、珠は光り輝く。まあ、明らかな
演出なんだけど、その「光」が八犬士にとっての生きる希望であり、未来なんだよね~。
　

　作品のクオリティーは本当に高い。絵もいいし、立ち回りも迫力ある！
そして声優陣の演技力はバツグン。とくに信乃＝関俊彦は絶品。。
　おまけにエンディングのＴＯＰＳの唄がイイ！
八犬士の過酷な生き様・ドラマの余韻が胸にせまってくる・・・。

「この世は無慈悲で残酷であるとともに、神聖な美しさに満ちている」

サントラ盤で監督・安濃氏は当作品をこのユングの言葉でとらえている。
たいへん印象的だ・・・。

原作はもちろん滝沢馬琴。角川の某映画とはまったく別物です。現八ファンの私は一瞬泣きそうになりましたが（ビジュアル的に）やっぱり話はおもしろいんだよな、これが。でもこのアニメを楽しむ為には原作を頭に入れておく事をお勧めします。でないと話の展開についてけないし、原作と違う部分を楽しむ事も出来ません。言い方を変えるなら、「南総里見八犬伝」のファンなら即購入すべし。
道節がかっこよすぎ、バンダナは反則でしょ。何気にガラ物着てるし。が、しかし、オープニングの道節とえらい違うような・・・。何があったんだ道節！！
