「もっともキングクリムゾンらしくない」アルバムという評価の高い３RDアルバムです。

たしかに、ＫＣの特徴である「動」の暴力性や「静」の美しさといったものはほとんどありません。あるのはＪＡＺＺロックを基調とした妖しいサウンドです。そのサウンドに貢献しているのはフリージャズのキースティペットのピアノ、メルコリンズのＳＡＸ、そしてアンドリューマカロックのシンプルだけど正確なドラムでしょうか。とりわけキ-スティペットが主旋律を気にすることなく弾きまくるピアノの影響が大きいと思います。
正統なＫＣファンにはお奨めできないかもわかりませんが、ＪＡＺＺロック、中でも妖しいサウンドのソフツの３RDあたりが好きな方にはお奨めできます。

キング・クリムゾンが１９７０年に発売した３枚目のアルバム。キース・ティペットが全面的に参加していて、ジャズの自由演奏が作品全体を特徴付けている。「ルーパート王子のめざめ」では、イエスのジョン・アンダーソンがヴォーカルとして参加。ゲストが重要な要素を占めている。

「クリムゾン・キングの宮殿」でデビューしたＫＣは、３作目でメンバーは大幅に入れ替わっている。残っているのは、ロバート・フリップとピート・シンフィールドだけで、それ以外はメル・コリンズ(sax）、ゴードン・ハスケル（vo/bass）、アンディ・マカロック（ds）。正式なメンバー以外でキース・ティペットとそのグループ、さらにジョン・アンダーソン。「リザード」は、キング・クリムゾンというバンドとしての個性というよ!!りは、ロバート・フリップの音楽プロジェクトの印象が強いアルバム。バンド以外のメンバーを多用し、自らのサウンド欲求を満たそうとしているように思う。ロバート・フリップの音楽性は存分に発揮されていると思う。
