誤解を恐れずにいえば、谷山さんの童話・不思議系の曲には、クラシック芸術歌曲に通じる普遍性を感じます。このアルバムも世にあふれる歌とは全然違う素材を扱いながら、谷山さんの曲と歌唱によって‘真実’が立ち現れ、深い感動が導かれていきます。こういう時空にとらわれないジャンルの曲を生み出せる事が、谷山さんの創作力が失われない一つの要素なのかも。‘組曲’としてのまとまり感もあり、聴きかえすほどに心にしみてくる作品です。

谷山さんのCDの中では地味な「カイの迷宮」。アンデルセンの童話『雪の女王』をモチーフとした曲のCDです。お芝居＆歌という形で公演されたのですが（実際の舞台を見たい方はDVD等が出ていますのでそちらもオススメ！）、妙に地味ーな印象なのはスローな曲が多いせい。でもとてもいい曲揃いなんですよ。じっくり聴くと味わい深いです。原作を読んでから聴くと感動も倍増ですが、CDだけでも楽しめます。冬の季節に聴いて頂きたい、オススメCDです。
ただし、演奏が「雪」や「冬」「寒さ」を上手く表しているので、夏だとピンと来ないかも…。

谷山浩子さんのアルバムの中でも、曲のバラエティが豊かな一枚です。悲しげな曲、静かな曲から、綺麗な曲、やさしい曲、明るい曲、ちょっと変な曲など。
谷山さんをはじめて聞かれる方にも、何枚か聞かれた方にもなかなかお勧めだと思います。
