5.0 out of 5 stars ライヴ感溢れる4thアルバム, 2002/1/18
１９９４年発表のフル・アルバムとしては通算４作目にあたる作品の再発。ロンドン録音。脱退したギタリストの穴を埋めず４人組で再スタートを切った格好となり、ゲスト・プレイヤーに現バッファロー・ドーターのシュガー吉永さんを迎えている。彼女のザクザクとしたギターの音も心地良く、またこの頃飛躍的に動員を伸ばしつつあったライヴアクトとしてのバンドの好調さも上手く反映されたダイナミズムのある１作。

アグレッシヴかつアッパーな前半と、淡々としたテンポの後半と対称的な流れがあり、またここでの収録曲（＝後半部の２曲“感謝(驚)”“夜の想い”）が最高のライヴ・アレンジで収録された『オー・マウンテン』が後に続くため、アルバムとしては直発展途上の印象も否めなかったりするのだけど、出た当時から大きな評価を受けた前半の目の覚めるような鮮烈さは今聴いても爽快だし、“帰り道”からの後半は当初からヴォーカルの佐藤さん自身が「こっちの方が好み」と公言してはばからなかった事もあるが、確かに後のポリドール時代のムードに近く、これまた堪えられない。佐藤さんの詞はさらに圧倒的な鋭さとリアリティを増し、シングルとなった“マイ・ライフ”の様な決定的なポップ・チューン（この詞には唸らされた）もあって、ここで大々的にオーディエンスを獲得してもおかしく無いポテンシャルがあったのだけど、まだまだこれが“助走”でしか無かったのはその後の歴史を見れば御存知の通り。

いろいろ言われている初期フィッシュマンズだが、楽曲メロでは頂点はこの「オレンジ」では？また孤高の天才キーボード奏者、ハカセもこのアルバムでのプレイが一番すごい。その後の彼の活動でもフィッシュマンズ時代ほどのテンションを見いだせないのは、佐藤というカリスマと陰の参謀、柏原譲の三つ巴の創作課程があったこの時代ならではだと思う。

改めて佐藤さんの作詞家としての才能を感じ、最高にロックな楽曲が
詰まったアルバムです！！
もう何年も前の音楽なのに今聞いても全く色褪せない、むしろ新しさすら感じる。

歌詞を見ながら「うんうん」聞くのも良し。
一緒に歌うも良し。

初めてフィッシュマンズを聞く方にはおすすめです。
