適度なヘヴィネスを湛えながら重苦しくないサウンド。抽象的なようでいて伝わってくる歌詞。そして彼らが愛してきた、さまざまな種類の音楽のエッセンスがそこここに感じられる、グレイプバインのサード・アルバム。そういったことを感じながら聴いていると、日本にロックというものは完全に根づいたのかという疑問が湧いてくる。どこにも媚がなく、成り立ちから楽曲の構成までまごうことないロックである彼らの音楽は、今間違いなく多くの人に支持されている。音楽のフィールドでも、やっといろいろなものが共存できるようなところまで民度が上がってきたのか。そうだったらいいなあ。あえてこれ以上、考えないことにするけど(笑)。さて、楽曲、演奏ともにバンドの充実ぶりを感じさせる新作なのではあるが、すべてがマイナー・コード(的な)曲ばかりなのも個性ということか? この手のバンドに相対的に感じることなので、それはちょっと気になる。 (楡崎明生) --- 2000年04月号

このアルバムの一曲目を飾る『想うということ』は歌詞をたどりながら聴いていただきたい名曲ですね。シングル曲『Reberb』『羽根』はこのアルバムの中ではいいアクセントになっていると思います。『ポートレート』から『Here』までの流れはとても綺麗でこの配列は流石だなぁとうなってしまいました!『南行き』で終わる辺りがバインらしいかな(笑)他のバインのアルバムとも違うよさと言えば、バインにしては割と分かり易い歌詞の歌が多いというところです。ということから聞きやすいアルバムだと私は思いました。

グレイプバインの曲は徹底的にリアルだ。リアルで意地悪だ。
田中和将の書く詞は、人と人とが解りあうことなど基本的にありえないという前提に立っている。人間には基本的に自分だけにしか解らない感情やエゴや欲望があって、それは誰かと共有できるものではない。そしてグレイプバインは他人と思いを共有することの安易さを否定し、そんなものは自分に都合のいい幻想でしかないことを暴き出す。だがそれでもなお、他者とのコミュニケーションを渇望する。それだけが私たちに残された不確定な希望なのだとでも言うように。
そんな現代人の孤独や諦めとコミュニケーションへの渇望が、田中和将独特のクールでシニカルなリリックによって、乾いたバンドサウンドに乗って日常的な風景として切り取られている。
日常の欺瞞に苛立ちを覚えている人、うわべだけのコミュニケーションや共感に吐き気を感じている人、インスタントなカラオケ向きのJ-POPが嫌いな人におすすめです。

印象として「切なさをちょっと含んだ哀しみ」。

バインがもつ独特な影の部分が浮き彫りになったアルバムだと思います。
当初は１曲目、２曲目（シングル曲Ｒｅｖａｒｂ）、３曲目の「ナポリを見て死ね」以降がなかなか聴き進むことが出来ませんでした。
今振り返っても私には異色な一枚。世界観の断固さという意味で強烈なアルバムです。
歌詞もかなり大きな書体で「／」区切りされていて、伝えたいという思いが感じ取れます。

統一感は素晴らしいですが、知らない人に最初の一枚としてはあまりオススメできない気がします。
これから聴こうと思われてる方には１ｓｔから順番にこのアルバムには触れて欲しいです。
