最近急に聴きたくなってＰＣに入れたこのアルバム。
当時高校生だった私は、ラジオから流れてきた白日に衝撃を受けました。
それまで何となく流行の音楽を聴いていたのに、一気に引き込まれてしまった。
数え切れない程聴いて､授業中こっそり歌詞を暗記していた風景が甦ります。
あの時初めて"ロック"に触れたのかもしれない。今聴いても鳥肌。
1stも素晴らしいけど、これも捨て曲なしです。

　彼らの音楽の中で、最大の金字塔。

　全体的に、やや気だるい感じがする クセのある１枚。
　独特なボーカルの歌い方、沈んだコード進行、ダウンビートぎみなドラム。
　Stone-washed という言葉がしっくりくるだろうか。
　個々は荒々しく力強いが、ざらざらした見た目よりも着心地は良く、なにより揺るがない頑丈さがある。
　そうやって創られた世界にのる、欝気味な詩が また本当に恐ろしいのだ。
　孤独、後悔、自虐……過去から離れたいのに、抜け出せず無意識にすがりついてしまう弱い心への憤り。
　発散できない全ての感情が ごちゃまぜに織り込まれた言葉は、真っ直ぐに心の真ん中を射抜いてくる。

　鳥肌が立つほどの名曲がずらりと並ぶ。
　それは決して、Singleだけではない。『スロウ』『SUN』『２５』『望みの彼方』……一枚に詰め込むのがもったいないくらいだ。

　その中でも、『光について』 の圧倒的な存在感は 桁違いだ。
　振り返ってしか分からないものの大切さ。
　落としてみないと気付かない時が、淡々と絞り出すような 声で、音で、胸の中に広がっていく。
　イヤホンに心を委ねて、空を見上げると 自然と涙が流れそうになる。

「やるせなさ」がいっぱいに漲った、会心作。
　音と詩の持つ力を知るものなら、一度聴いてしまえば素通りは出来ない。
　止まらない時の中ででも、足を止めて聴き入りたい世界がここにある。

高校生の頃ハマっていて、最近ふと聴き直したら
やっぱりいいアルバムだと思いました。
私の個人的な一意見ですが、正直なところ、
「スロウ」は神がかり的なところがあって、
バインはいまだにそれを超えられていないような気がしています。
このアルバムはその「スロウ」を含めて、
GRAPEVINEの真骨頂が詰まっている一枚ではないでしょうか。
『Here』以降のアルバムも好きですが、
「光について」「白日」「望みの彼方」などが代表的なところで、
田中和将の描く世界観はこのアルバムで一度完結していると思います。
GRAPEVINEはこのアルバム抜きには語れないですね。
