１９９１年５月に当時新興レーベルだったヴァージン・ジャパンから発売されたフィッシュマンズのデビュー・アルバム、その再発盤。プロデュースは元ミュート・ビートの小玉和文氏。「ひこうき」「チャンス」というライヴでもおなじみの二大名曲に当時はシングルカットもされたいかにもこの時期ならではのハジけっぷりが微笑ましい「いなごが飛んでる」に隠れた名品「Future」、スカ・アレンジの童謡「夏の思い出」のインスト（サトちゃんのコルネットと“聞こえる？”の台詞が何とも言えず良い）などを収録。

よくこのバンドに関してはある時期を境にガラっと変わった様な物言いも見受けられるのだげど、果たしてそれはどうか。実際のところ、その核みたいなものはこのアルバムの頃から既にあって、抽象的な言い方だけども、きっと頭の中では僕らがフィッシュマンズに抱いている「あの感じ」はもう鳴っていたんだと思う。メンバー自身の言葉を借りれば「こんな顔がしたかったんだけど、実際には出来なかったもどかしさ」みたいなものがよく表れている様な、そんな１作。

フィシュマンズの記念すべきファーストアルバム。
と言っても、フィッシュマンズ程その歴史を時系列に
並べることが意味を成さないバンドも珍しい。

つまりは着地点が見つからないのだ。
一つ一つのアルバムが着地地点と言われればそれは
そうかもしれないが、そこからどんな力点が働いているのか
分からない位に再び予測不可能な変化を始める。
おそらくそれは本人達にもわからないことなのかもしれない。

その数ある作品の中でも一番表現がシンプルであるのが
今作だろう。

ただし、それでも彼らの心情をはっきりと読み取ることは難しい。
明るいとも暗いとも言えないような、どちらにも振り切れていない空気感。
まるで何も無い場所に向かって、言葉を投げ掛けているような
虚無感が漂っている。

自分でも何を言ってるか分からない、でもこれは自分の言葉だろ？

そう言いたそうな彼らなりのジレンマを感じる。
アイデンティティの確立とその拒絶、または２つの共存。
このテーマは後期に至るまでずっと尾を引いて残っていく。

それでも、この作品に漂う希望や暖かみは、まだ満たされていないという
生きるうえでの欲望がまだ彼らに残っているのだと、そんな印象を僕らに与える。
