天賦の才能とセンスの良さで独自の世界へ聴く者をいざなう小島麻由美の2ndアルバム。古き良き時代のＪＡＺＺ喫茶の香りがする1stからさらに表現力が広がり、懐かしげでどこかもの哀しい昭和歌謡風、童謡風、そしてブルース、モダンＪＡＺＺといった雰囲気の曲の数々を披露している。生楽器で一発録音！と、いう音である。フルートやウッドベースが心地良く響き臨場感にあふれている。歌詞は歌詞で、前作同様読んでいるだけでもおもしろい。そしてやはり歌声が素晴らしい。聴き込むほどに味わい深くなる１枚である。

ピアノが上手い、曲想が面白い、そして何と言っても歌が上手い。それが歌手としての必須条件であるにしても、色々な音声加工で結構ごまかして曲を発表してしまう人がいるけれど、こんなに直球でありながらセクシーな声を持った人はそうそういないと思います。癒しではなく棘のある音楽を聴きたい人にお勧めです。

最近になって『真夏の海』が小島麻由美18歳の作品だと知りました。
ファン失格です。大ショックです。
当時中学生だった私は、小島麻由美を25を超えた、若しくは30近い人だと
思っていました。勝手に。
それくらいあっけらかんとした曲達なのです。

若くして素晴らしい曲を作る人はたくさんいます。
でも、素晴らしい曲に負けまいと、隙のない歌詞やアレンジで
埋め尽くしてしまっているような気がします。若さゆえ。

それに比べて、何なんだこの人の器のでかさは。
スキャットで済ませていても、お手軽感はなく、ちゃんと完成している。
それでいて計算されたような居心地の悪さを感じさせない。
そこがすごいのだ。やっと分かった。10年経って。
あ、今も好きです。
