このアルバムは90年代最初のアルフィーのアルバムです。このアルバムの前に高見沢は最初で最後の(?!)ソロ活動をし、それによって肩の力が抜けたのか、非常に聞きやすいアルバムになっています。それぞれシンプルな音作りながら、全11曲どれをシングルにしてもおかしくない完成度。さすがはベテランの余裕を感じさせます。いかにもハードロックなＭー1ではじまり、高見沢の泣きのギターと桜井の熱いボーカルが重なるＭ-2、ヒットシングルＭー3、坂崎の12弦ギターが爽やかなＭー4、今度は坂崎の変則チューニングのテクニックが光るＭー5、桜井のボーカルが胸に染みるバラードＭー6、高見沢が叫ぶＭー7、打ち込みの上に坂崎の乾いたボーカルがのる哀愁のＭー8、高見沢の歌う美しいメロディーが切ないバ!ラードＭー9、恒例の大阪女子マラソンテーマソングＭー10、ベルリンの壁を題材にした哀しくも逞しいバラードＭー11。今までのキャリアを感じさせる音楽性とこれからもまだまだやっていくぞ、というはっきりとした意志を感じさせるアルバムです。円熟さとエネルギーが完璧に融け合った好盤です。

前作から約二年。アルカディアの欄で触れたように、世の中的にも業界的にもたった二年（厳密に言えば一年）で大激変してしまっていた。政治的メッセージの投げ所は冷戦終結をもってひとまずなくなってしまい、所謂『渋谷系』アーティストの登場とバンドブームの崩壊でそれまでにない価値観が生まれ、そんな中で旧態然としているミュージシャンらは否応なしに転換をある程度は余儀なくされてしまった。
アルフィーのそんなバンドのひとつだったように思える。
発売の前年の彼らの行動はまさにそれを裏付けるかの如く、高見沢氏の後にも先にもこれっきりのソロ活動。夏のイベント10周年記念ライブで見せたノーコンセプト。
きっと相当模索していたのでは？と今振り返ると思ってしまう。
そして出たこのアルバム。絶対に原点回帰などではない。方向性に迷いあぐねいた結果の無節操だ。
90年代に発表されたアルバムを一気聴きしてみれば、彼らの方向性がいかにバラバラで統一性がないものかがよくわかる。仮に前作で新しい方向性の曲を打ち出したとしても、それらが次作に活かされていないケースが多々ある。
一曲一曲はとてもシンプルで無駄がなく、完成度は決して低くない。
ただ『これぞアルフィー!!』と感じる曲があまりないというものもあり、とにかく迷ってるなぁ。。と今聞くと感じてしまうわけです。
決して非難しているわけではないので悪しからず。
