谷山浩子の初期のアルバムで、まだカドがとれきっていない感じの繊細な歌声は、円熟した今の歌声とはまたひと味違った良さがあります。
収録されている歌は、まったくの谷山さんオリジナルワールドではなく、前半は西洋、後半は日本の童話をベースにした歌です。

でも原作があるからこそ、なおさら「谷山浩子の個性」というものが際だって見えてくるアルバムだと思います。

ものごころ付いたころに、父がはじめて聞かせてくれた谷山浩子のレコードがこれでした。曲は確か「鏡よ鏡」だったと思います。記憶に残っている父の言葉は「どうだ、暗い曲だろう」でした。子供のころなので、歌手名も曲名もまったくわからずにいましたが、その印象だけは深く残っていました。高校生のころに谷山浩子に再びめぐり合い、それから彼女の曲を聞き出しました。
今の感覚からすると、初期の作品集という匂いがあり、同時に懐かしいという思いもします。

学生時代、学校から帰ると必ず、FMラジオをスイッチオンある時、突然に流れて来たのが『鏡よ鏡』でした。当時流行のユーミンと中島とはまた違うメルヘンチックなメロディに感動しました。
