いろいろな恋＆愛のかたちを描いたほんわか映画。５つの別個の物語がオムニバス構成になっている、ちょっと変わったつくりの映画です。高校生の恋から老年の恋、夫婦の愛や離別など、見る人それぞれがお気に入りの作品に出会えるのではないかと思います。この映画が中国で大ヒットして、「○○麻辣湯」と銘打った鍋料理の店が激増したそうです。映画の内容もいいけれど、後ろで流れる曲もすてきです。中国語圏ポップスが好きな人にはいいですね。新しい曲ではないんですが、個人的には久しぶりに聴く曲ばかりで懐かしかったです。サントラも出ていますよ。こちらもいい感じのオムニバスＣＤになってます。

こころの湯を観てすげえ感動して、この監督のデビュー作がこのスパイシー・ラブスープだと知りました。いやあ、よかったあ！あったかあい気持ちになりました。僕はインテリじゃなくアホなんで、映画の評論をグダグダ言えないのですが、ほんとよかった！この映画観て感動した人は、こころの湯も観てみたらいいと思います。

現代中国文化や近年の中国映画の動向を理解するうえで貴重な作品。オムニバスにした結果、ストーリーとしては、各話とも掘り下げ不十分になった。しかし、それだけに、年齢・職業問わずに、北京がめまぐるしい勢いで現代化・近代化していっているさまがわかる。

テープを使って告白しようとする少年。テレビでお見合い相手を募る老婆。子どものために買ったおもちゃに自分たちが夢中になってしまう夫婦。どこを見回しても同じ高層ビルがずらりと立ち並ぶ団地。一昔前では道徳的にも経済的にもありえなかった人間の生態、街の様子が描かれている。

その逆に、一人の少年は、おまじないに知恵を借りて、両親の離婚をやめさせようとする。その企ては、前近代的だが昔ながらの気持ちの表れとして理解できることなのだが、しかし、「子はかすがい」とはならない。

おそらく監督は、こういった現代化を避けられない過程ととらえている。しかし、同時に、『スパイシー・ラブ・スープ』と本作を題した。彼が、現代化のなかの愛は辛い、そう思っていることは、随所からうかがえるのだ。

現代中国映画の映画監督は、『こころの湯』、『初恋のきた道』、『山の郵便配達』といったハートウォーミングな作品を作りたがる。おそらく、現代中国の監督は、いろんなものを根こそぎ持っていく急激な現代化に危機感を抱き、自分たちの心の根っことなる伝統的な精神を確保しようと必死なのだ。そのことを『スパイシー・ラブ・スープ』は教えてくれる。
