   バーテンダーとして働くステラ（ベッド・ミドラー）は、名家の出の医大生スティーヴン（スティーヴン・コリンズ）の子どもを身ごもったことから彼のもとを去り、女手ひとつで娘ジェニーを生み、育てることに。やがて年頃になったジェニー（トリニ・アルバラード）を今の環境のまま置いておいてよいか悩むようになり……。
   未婚の母とその娘の愛情を描いたオリーブ・ヒギンズ・プローティ原作『ステラ・ダラス』の3回目の映画化。前2作はサミュエル・ゴールドウィン製作だが、今回はその息子の製作という、親子二代こだわりの作品でもある。いかにも肝っ玉かあさんといったスタンスを保ちつつ、その強さと哀しさの両方を巧みに醸し出すB・ミドラーの、いつもながらの熱演が光る。（的田也寸志）

「フォーエバーフレンズ」の｢愛は翼に乗って」で大泣きした人に。ベット・ミドラー自身の実体験のようなお話です。エピソードのひとつひとつに涙が詰まっています。現代の日本でもこのような話は周りに一杯あります。ポツリポツリときたウルウルとハナ水が、最後のセントラルパークで大雨になります。心も洗われる涙です。

今まで映画を観て泣いたことのない私が、ラストシーンで号泣しました。まだDVDがない頃に高いセルビデオを購入し、更にDVDに買い換えました。ベッド・ミドラーのなんて素敵なこと。この映画を観て彼女のとりこになりました。女性の方、是非ご覧下さい！

愛情の大きさや愛情の価値観は人それぞれ。
母娘間であっても、お互いに求め求められる愛情は異なる。
主人公のステラは、涙ぐましい愛情を注ぎながら
女一人で立派に娘を育て上げた。
娘の幸せを願うが為に、最後には娘を突き放してしまう。
それもステラの愛情なのだ。

単にお涙頂戴映画だと感じさせないのは

人情味あふれるベット・ミドラーの魅力による部分が大きい。
気分が落ち込むことなくラストまで観れた。
