現在出ているコミック・ノヴェル・DVDのすべての原点はここにあります。一番最初のコミックよりも、こっちが先なんです。
個人的にはTVシリーズよりもオススメします。
収録話数は少ないですが、絵・音楽・声優などの一体感は目を見張るものがあります。
TVシリーズをご覧になった方は、礎ともよべる本作品をみていただきたいですね。
孤独でシニカルな美夕が絶対的な信頼を寄せるラヴァとの関係は、うらやましく思えます（下僕だからじゃないよ）。
人間関係に疲れたら、見てみるのもいいかもしれません。
固い信頼の絆で結ばれる関係に、あこがれるし、救われます。

美夕のアニメを知ってる人は、大抵テレビシリーズの方を語る。
一方こちらはテレビシリーズよりも以前の作品で、美夕を追い
かける女霊媒師の視点からなる４つのオムニバスからなる独立の
作品。
登場人物の設定がテレビ版とはかなり異なっており（美夕が吸血姫
になった経緯すら！）、こちらの美夕は小悪魔度が炸裂してて、

結構優等生ぽかったテレビシリーズよりも原作の雰囲気に近い気が
する。主人公の女霊媒師を心理的に揺さぶりまくるが、これは視聴者
の心を揺さぶるためだろう。非常に魅惑的で圧倒的な存在感だ。
こっちを先に見てると、テレビシリーズの方は絵も人物関係も子供
向け（少女アニメ的）で不満である（結末のダークさは凄いけど）。

最後に、この作品内の最終話（吸血姫になった経緯）は衝撃的だ。
これは切ない。母と娘（美夕）の宿命の非情さに声が出ない。
テレビシリーズを見たことが無く見る予定も無い人でも、この作品は
お薦め。

この作品を初めて見たのは、もう十数年前になるが、その独特の幻惑的な雰囲気の影に隠された、様々な出来事の真相の残酷さに当時、頭を殴られたような強い衝撃を受けたものである。
　物語は霊能力者一三子の眼を通して、人間の暗部に介在するモノ--

神魔と同族であるにも関わらず彼らを狩りたてる謎の吸血鬼少女　美夕を描く。『人間』としての尊厳と倫理観を冒涜するかの様な美夕の行為に、憤りを覚えつつも、好奇心を抑えられず次第に深追いしていく一三子。あくまでも神魔に関わった人間達の悲劇的な顛末の傍観者であったはずの彼女は、やがて、当の自分自身が既にその当事者になっていたことに気づかされるという恐ろしくも皮肉な結末を迎えるのだ。
「無知とは最大の幸福なり」「知らぬが仏」などの格言の裏に秘められた「怖さ」を痛感させる。真に「恐ろしい」ものは、もののけたる神魔の存在ではなく、人間が眼を背け続け、ひた隠しにしていた自分自身の闇なのである。

後、同タイトルのテレビシリーズも存在しており、こちらもぜひお薦めしたい。併せて見れば、より楽しめよう。
